  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was in front and felt I had a good swim going out to the first bouy then after that bouy I just died. Completely ran out of gas. I felt worse than I've ever felt in any race.
What would you do differently?:

Did I go out too fast or was my nutrition off. Or the more likely, I've not been training hard enough. Whatever I was worried about making it back to shore
Transition 1
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

So wiped out from my swim I could hardly stand up, really. I was thinking about dropping out
What would you do differently?:

Cowboy up
Bike
  • 44m 50s
  • 14.8 miles

Comments:

It took me some time to recover from that swim disaster. 2nd part of bike ride was strong
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
What would you do differently?:

I need to think about my transitions
Run
  • 30m 5s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I am happy with the run. I felt I pushed it good. I wasn't happy with my race when I started running and wanted to have something to feel good about. It was very strange to pass people running.
What would you do differently?:

This is a fast run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Clear lake is warm and clean. Took a nice swim

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I completely bonked swimming and ended up resting in T1 and on the bike.

Hey man, don't be too down...you did great! You must have taken off before the raffle. I heard them call your name, but didn't see you go pick a prize.

Well, you survived and did great--really!  I agree that you probably started too fast on the swim, because "dying" is the way I felt at my first tri at Lake Padden when I tried to start fast.  At Clear Lake, I was not in the front ('tho wish I had been closer to the front), so I couldn't swim that fast even if I had wanted to.  I just focused on manouvering a space to swim that didn't conflict with someone else, until I got to the first buoy.  Then I was not in the crush anymore, and I ramped up the pace on the way back.  Unfortunately, I was still slow!  (And a little shakey getting started on the bike, but it didn't last long.)

The important thing, I think, is to not dwell on lack of training, or wishing you'd trained better, but to just have fun and enjoy the experience! Smile

So...congrats!
