Need some serious wetsuit help!

Master  1303   Mishicot, Wisconsin |  Subject: Need some serious wetsuit help!Take a look at the picture... I am running out of ideas. My neck takes two weeks to heal. I have tried all kinds of things. Does this happen to anyone else? What can I do? Any help! Ironman is going to be a very long swim if this happens early on. Member 32 Seattle, WA | Subject: RE: Need some serious wetsuit help! im sure you have already tried it but if you are a shorter then the sizing chart says to be you may need to really pull up on the butt portion of your wetsuit so that your back has more flexibility and is able to move around and perhaps not give such a burn, either way best of luck and break a leg at IM |

Pro 4608  Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: Need some serious wetsuit help! Pull it up to the point of discomfort, because once in the water it fills up and stretches a bit. Use tons of body glide and if that isn't working, use a thick layer of aquaphor. Try not tightening it all the way on the neck as well, you can velcro it a little looser. And lastly there is a flap on the inside that protects your neck from the velcro, be sure that is smooth and flat as it can bunch up in the zipping process. |

| Subject: RE: Need some serious wetsuit help! Trislide works for me Oh, make double/triple sure the velcro is not peeking over the edge of the suit when you secure it. Don't secure it so it's even all the way around, secure it 1 or 2" below the collar. I don't know why they put the scratchy part of the velcro as the outside piece but they do. |

I have swam in 3 different wetsuits... and I have NEVER had anything like that happen. My last swim was a 3 mile OWS in the Zoot Fusion sleeveles- and I didn't get ANY chafing. I think you need a new wetsuit. |

And most wetsuits have a neoprene flap that keeps that from happening... |

(Tug the front of your tshirt and see where the shirt collar rubs on your neck). I've seen high collar wetsuits, but the little rub in your hairline tells me that you are looking forward a bunch when you swim, causing that rub. Drop your head down in the water and let your body rotation do the breathing. Twisting and craning your neck a lot will cause rubs in even the best fitting wetsuits. |

I, too, am a "forward looker" and trying to focus on looking down. That could very well be part of the problem. |

Member 155 N Y C | Subject: RE: Need some serious wetsuit help! Y'ouch! It doesn't look like the suits fits right - if it does and this is happening, I'd consider another suit. If another suit is not an option... I would think about wearing an "under armor" type turtleneck during the swim...maybe cut off the sleeves or make a dickie or of it? Try a bandana/silk scarf...you need a layer between the suit and your skin. Glide will help, but not much according to your photo. good luck. |
