Total Time = 1h 26m
Overall Rank = 62/666
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 13/54
Pre-race routine:

Breezed through registration on Friday. Dropped our gear at the dorms, then scouted out dinner in town. Bought a copy of Triathlete Magazine for bedtime reading. Lights out at 11:00 PM. Up at 6:30 to mix drinks and check over the bike one last time.
Event warmup:

We had a relatively late start, so AM routine was pretty relaxed. Enough time after setting up transition to mingle a bit with cusetri and rstocks. They had my wave in the water very quickly, and after floating around for a few minutes, it was time to go.
Swim
  • 11m 52s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 27s / 100 yards
Comments:

Warm water and short course persuaded me to take this one without my wet suit. They had us swimming in a boat channel which was murky and stinky. First time since moving to central NY that I didn't love being in the water. Started out to the right to avoid some of the early thrashing, then bee-lined for the first buoy to get some open water. Good turnover and technique for the whole distance. Kept the HR low, but managed to cruise along at a decent clip, while saving mojo for the bike
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Fair enough. Overshot my bike despite the balloons which another competitor had arranged close by. Cost me a couple seconds, but nothing devastating.
Bike
  • 47m 17s
  • 16.1 miles
  • 20.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Anything north of 20 mph is great for me. This was a mostly flat course, so I thought i might touch 21 at one point, but gusts and headwinds in the last five slowed me down a tad. I'm hardly one of the speed demons, but no complaints here.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Need to pick up the pace here. Too nonchalant.
Run
  • 23m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Very tough to find my rhythm for some reason. Didn't wear my HRM, but I could feel my ticker thumping madly right away. Pace wasn't too bad considering the strength/pace of my bike leg, but this one hurt more than it should have. I had grand plans of a negative split, but by the time I made it to the turnaround, I was just hanging on for dear life. Bob (rstocks) was nice enough to remind me as I came churning through the aid station that sprints are supposed to hurt. Guess my relaxed and confident expression had melted off of my face by that time. Nabbed one athlete in the chute. Couldn't quite catch an AG rival, however. Went immediately past the chip collectors and heaved twice into the grass much to the delight of the crowd.
What would you do differently?:

Make some kind of public announcement before puking: "Hey, everybody, look at this!"
