I have never swam in a 50m pool. Only 25m at the gym. My 350m time ranges from about 8-10 minutes. Where should I start? Ranges? 8-10 minutes is a large range. Is that with rest stops or something? I would say go with 9:21. Then you are being cautious and give an odd time so if someone puts down 9:25, you are in front of them. But only YOU can know what you swim that in and if you will need to stop and rest at the wall or not. You could also possibly put down 8:57 and be OK too. |

Extreme Veteran 455 Plano,TX | Subject: RE: Take on the Heat Triathlon : Official Thread I would estimate toward the lower end of what you think you can do it in. The adrenaline from the race will naturally cause you to swim a bit faster than usual. |

"put down 9:21, no wait, 8:57" LOL!!! just kidding =) My time ranges because sometimes I give a really good kick off the wall, and other times I just touch and go - since the race is a 50m and I swim in a 25, I try to only push off the wall on each lap rather than each length. Most of the time, I can swim the entire thing freestyle, but occassionally, I need to swim 25 backstroke. Should I really push myself in training tomorrow to see where I am? |

Remember to pace yourself just a little, as you don't want to come out of the pool completely blown as you still will have a couple of events to go |

Veteran 347 | Subject: RE: Take on the Heat Triathlon : Official Thread Yes, time yourself and push it. Good idea to see what it feels like. If you can't find a 50m pool to practice and get a time in, just use the 25m pool. And I would push off both walls. You aren't going to be coming to a dead stop in the middle of the 50m pool and start going again. Practice turns and being smooth. Before my first pool swim, I also practiced turning and ending up in the next lane, that can be tricky if you are not ready. jeffwhite - 2009-08-03 11:06 PM KSH - 2009-08-03 9:58 PM jeffwhite - 2009-08-03 9:42 PM So...I dont want to be "that guy" who doesn't guess his time correctly. New user 8 | Subject: RE: Take on the Heat Triathlon : Official Thread I'm in and I'm so excited. This will be my first real sprint tri. I did the "my first tri" on July 5th and am totally hooked. I would love a different bike since I'm using my 20 year old, $15 garage sale bike. Keep dropping hints to my husband since my birthday is next week - we shall see if he's listening!! |

You need to test ride bikes and see which one you like and fits you best. You should go test ride bikes with him there, so he can 1) Know your size, 2) Know to buy you a bike! Veteran 347 | Subject: RE: Take on the Heat Triathlon : Official Thread You could always call the bike shop, have a sales person write down your order, and tell your husband to call a specific person at the specific number...Just in case...(although it sounds like he is on the ball). Congrats on the first tri, welcome to the addiction. I will be doing the swim leg for our relay team (I was tired of Gaarry drafting me on the swim and passing me on the bike), we will probably have our tent out so stop on by to say hi(anyone and everyone). I think we have about 15 people participating in this event. (Frisco Triathlon Clulb) valcox - 2009-08-04 11:05 AM I have done a few test rides with him there and have pinpointed THE bike and size. Champion 10471 Dallas, TX | Subject: RE: Take on the Heat Triathlon : Official Thread Triathletes, We were just informed a short while ago that the pool will now not be ready for swimming on August 16th. The good news is that the pool and the city are allowing us to move the race date to August 23rd so we will get to race! Unfortunately, these circumstances are out of our control, but we are happy that we will be able to put on the race even though it will be one week later. Here are your options: #1 - do nothing - pick up your packet on August 21st or 22nd and show up August 23rd ready to race. #2 - Transfer to the Take on the Heat 2010 race by emailing [email protected] by Thursday, August 13th with your first and last name and the words Transfer to 2010. #3 - Request a refund by emailing [email protected] by Thursday, August 13th with your first and last name and the words Refund for Take on the Heat. Please remember in making your decision that this event is a fundraiser for The Benevolent Fund that benefits the charities supported by The Colony Fire Department and your support is greatly appreciated. If we do not hear anything back from you by Thursday, August 13th, we will assume you will be racing with us on August 23rd. The race website and active.com will be updated with all the current information by tomorrow. Again, we do apologize for the inconvenience and hope to see you all out at the race on Sunday, August 23rd! Thank you, Staci Brode www.playtri.com [email protected] |
