Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:05, coffee, shower, last minute pack up, load bike. Grab breakfast bar for the road, diet Pepsi and cruise. First and only tri thus far this season.
Event warmup:

Parked about 1.5 miles away. Walked in. Racked bike, body marks, some water. Nice end bike rack space - right near bike out door. Peed about 5 times (nerves ;)) Walked around, chatted a bit. Sweat dripped from me just waiting around. HUMID!
Swim
  • 10m 7s
  • 481 yards
  • 02m 06s / 100 yards
Comments:

Suckola performance! I hyperventilated first few minutes. Why? Maybe water temp seemed chilly at first. I could not find a rhythm. Bummed. Got swam over by 2 guys at bouy (so did about 3 other people). And I trashed my feet on zebra mussels. One cut which hurt like a son of a gun has me on antibiotics now - infected, swollen, and if not better by tomorrow maybe the hospital for iv antibiotics. OY. Tip toed over pavement to transition (my feet are so tender)
What would you do differently?:

More OWS practice.
Transition 1
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

I was dizzy from swim. Must have been all that hyperventilating. Sat down to put socks on... debated if should bandaid toes but too wet, would take too long so off I went.
What would you do differently?:

Breathe easier.
Bike
  • 56m 32s
  • 16 miles
  • 16.98 mile/hr
Comments:

Anyhow... fall from a few days ago didn't really both me. Legs got tired a few times heading into the wind and I was THIRSTY at about 9miles out.
What would you do differently?:

hammer more...need more training to raise cadence/strength for long haul.
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Felt pretty good but hot, dumped some remaining water on head as I headed out.
What would you do differently?:

drink some more
Run
  • 30m 51s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Sufferfest...HOT. I walked through water stations and dumped some water on head. I was determined NOT to walk no matter how hot I got. So...my pace slowed a bit. ;)
What would you do differently?:

carry a spray mister?
Post race
Warm down:

got some water...could not find MORE...all gone at food station. Finally found a cup full at the finish line. Walked under sprinkler, wandered around trying to cool down. Looked at food available and didn't look good...flies buzzing around pizza that looked ugh, some hunks of cheese, pb&j packets, oranges/nanas.... Packed up, headed home for brunch. Felt semi crappy most of the day too...little appetite, tired and then the BIG owie with toe ensued and got worse.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat...lack of training

Event comments:

I don't know if I'll do this race again next year. But it's an ok race. Seems the sprint has grown while the olympic has waned in participants. Those zebras really bummed me this year...more so than past years. Not enough water, post race food didn't appeal to me, no mats covering concrete from water to transition, no bathing caps (hey, i know there are cut backs but too many people didn't have them anyhow), and need more portopotties.

Way to overcome all the obstacles and finish strong! That is true Donkey spirit.  What's a bathing cap?

Great first race for this season! I would not have liked being in that heat one bit.....especially running in heat.....I hate that. I would have been one unhappy woman if I had to search for water after the race, especially with the heat and humidity that day. I'm with you on the food.....not very appealing after racing. Midwest Sports seems to always have weird food and I don't really understand why, other than saving $$$ perhaps??

Anyway, you did great and hopefully your foot heals and no IV antibiotics.

Way to go doing a race regardless of owies! Then getting one in the swim, great run considering you had a cut on your foot!
