Subject: Bike Help
I am just getting into triathlon training, but I don't have a bike.  I have been using a stationary bike at my gym.  My family is giving me a lot of heck about buying a bike because they are so expensive.  I tell them that's what bikes cost, but they won't let up.  Is it possible to use a used bike to start off?  I don't want to do that, but I am sick of hearing them complain.  (I really don't know why it's a big deal, anyway.  I'm paying for it.)  Does anyone have any suggestions about what kind of bike to get??  I want a road bike and have been looking in the $600-$800 price range and do not want to go any higher.  I also think I want a women's bike.  If anyone has any tips for buying, I would love to hear what you have to say!  Thanks

I like Felt. What about something like the below for $799 msrp:

You can probably find it cheaper at a lbs.

my GF has a 2009 Trek 1.2 WSD (Women Specific...  Something?  Not sure what it stands for?) that she's trying to sell.  She's kind of getting desperate and will let it go for 600.  She bought it in Feb or mar?  it's a size 51 i think...  i'm sure less than 500 miles on it.  let me know if your interested.  If not, there are alot of good deals on craigslist.  You have to first find out what size you are.

WSD = women's specific design

I was think Trek 1.2 or 1.5 for that price range. Don't forget to budget in a helmet. I would stop into your local bike shop and get an idea of what's out there the prices, and a rough idea of what size you need (how tall are you?)

Dang, that would be awesome if it were a little bigger.  I've been fitted twice and they've told me I need a 56" frame.  I'm 5'9" :/

abby4106,
I'm also 5-9" and I ride a 54.  My point is that sizes will vary from one bike brand to the next.  A 54cm Felt may fit like a 56cm Trek, so if you find a bike that's within 3-4 cm, go ahead and try it out.  Sometimes all you need is a bit of adjustment (or a $$$ professional bike fitting) to make them fit just fine.  Good Luck!
