Subject: Question About My Goals/Plans for Next Year
Hello Everyone,

I would greatly appreciate people's input on this.  I am in my first season of being a triathlete and my season will climax in September when I complete my first HIM, but also ran the Boston Marathon in April.  I intend to complete at least one IM next year, however, I am strongly considering doing two.  The two I am considering doing are Lake Placid (July 25, 2010) and Arizona (around November 22, 2010).  My friend that I do a lot of training with can't do Lake Placid because of a previous engagement and I really want to do that one, but we made a pact to do one together next year and I finished up school at Arizona State so IM AZ does have some significance to me.  I am a former division 1 college hockey player and I would have to say I am a pretty athletic guy.  I am also extremely devoted to my training (more like obsessed).  I have done some research and from what I have gathered, people say there should be at least 6 weeks between doing two IMs.  Obviously there is much more time than that between these two, but these would also be my first two.  With this said, is my goal unrealistic?

Thanks in advance

I think you should wait until after your HIM to ask this again.

But doable?  Sure.

Smart?  ?????

Not sure if you are aware but Lake Placid 2010 is full unless you want to double your entry fee and do the charity method.

Yeah I was aware of that and will be doing the charity entry method if I end up doing it.  Thanks though!

AbbieR on here is doing IMKY at the end of this month (August) and is doing IMAZ in November.

So you will actually have MORE time between your IM's than she will.

She hasn't DONE it yet, but looks doable.

Also, Amymengel on here did two IM's within about 2 months of each other last year. You can check out her training logs (look at my Log, then my friend list and you can find both those ladies this way) to see how she did it.

Amy did it and she did great at BOTH of her IM's.

I found the info on her log...

ironman
- IM Kentucky 08/31/2008 (12:24:35)
- Great Floridian 10/25/2008 (12:20:09)

As you can see, they were roughly 2 months apart and she ROCKED both of them!

i just did IMLP as my first IM  and it was awesome.  Not as much athletic background as you and certainly not the running background.  Last year was my first year of tris, first HIM was last Sept which i did untrained.  The first thing I wanted to do after IMLP was another IM.  However to quote what i was told by Jorge^^^, "there is no way in hell you're doing IMWI."  And what followed that was, "in fact not just IMWI, ANY race that starts with Ironman in 2009 is completely out."

In more detail, he said it probably wouldn't go as well, i wouldn't enjoy it as much, etc.  And the more I thought about it I agree.  Could I have finished?  sure.  But I want to keep on loving IMs, and I'm glad I had someone stop me before I did something I probably would have regretted.  So, I can train for and be happy having one awesome IM a year!
