Pre-race routine:

Drove downtown by myself. Mcd coffee and muffin as usual. Arrived in time to catch the ferry 90' before race.
Mosquitoes were out in full force. I got 10+ bites soon after I arrived at the island.

Comments:

On the 2nd loop, instead of continuing onto the 3rd loop, I stayed to the right and went towards the finish area. When I realized I went the wrong way, I veered across the grass, attempted to manoeuvre my way around the spectators and ended up falling off my bike! Had to get up, clip back, wait for traffic to clear before getting up to speed. This is the same stupid mistake I made 2yrs ago. You'd think I should know the course by now! I probably lost a min or so, but surprisingly I still ended up with the 2nd fastest women bike split! The aero helmet and wheel set up must have helped, but the race saddle that I put on yesterday was quite uncomfortable.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Run
  • 24m 6s
  • 4.5 kms
  • 05m 22s  min/km
Comments:

I was quite tired on the 2nd run, and thought I slowed down a bit. But pleasantly surprised to see than I ran about the same pace as the first run!
Post race
Warm down:

Stayed for the awards ceremony. I was 4th women overall, 2nd fastest women bike split, despite the fall.
Can't believe I got lost in the park as I was trying to find my way to the ferry! Ended up walking an extra 40'. Then as luck would have it, the boat was full just before my turn to get on and I had to wait another 30' for the next boat.

Event comments:

PS - overall rankings include 64 men
