Subject: Wetsuit storage over the winter?
Thinking ahead to winter, what do y'all do with your full-sleeve wetsuits?  Hang 'em up on a nice wide hanger?  Or fold them and store them away in a box?  Seems like they would get "heavy" on the hanger sitting there all season (stress on the shoulders/neck?), but the folding thing seems like it would make for some odd long-term creases/folds in the neoporene...

Thanks in advance for your thoughts & advice!

Cheers, Chris

From what I have heard they should be Folded to prevent stretching in the shoulders.

It seems to me that my wetsuit manual recommended storing it laying flat.  So I keep mine laid across the top of my tents, sleeping bags, etc on a shelf in my basement.

I throw mine in a garbage bag and toss it in a closet.

The best thing for them is to lay flat and unencumbered.  I lay my wetsuits under the spare bed.  If I didn't have that option, I would hang them up (on a wide shouldered coat hanger).  I would not take Megan's advice...

Good stuff! Thanks to all for the replies - I like the lay-flat-&-hide-it option; I'll look for a good spot to do that.

Much appreciated!

Emilio Desoto from Desoto wetsuits highly recommends soaking your wetsuit before putting it on after long periods of non-usage.  So store it flat or folded but remember to give it a good soaking next spring before you struggle into it for the first time.   They do hold moisture for a long time but definitely remember a good soaking anytime it's been awhile since you've used it, you can define awhile for yourself.  I'm usually racing every 2-3 weeks with maybe an OWS in between so a "pre-soak" is not needed much in season.

Good call!!  I have heard that soak advice before, but I would've forgotten without the reminder here - thanks for that tip!  Emilio has never done me wrong, so if that's what he says, then that's good enough for me

I don't really have anywhere I can lay it flat, so I pretty much just fold it up a few times (in half, lengthwise, then over and over), put it in a bag, and leave it in the closet. I typically give it a soaking before I use it at the beginning of the year. One of my suits is 8 years old, and the newer one is 3. It may not be ideal, but it works, and hasn't caused them any damage or wrinkles or anything.

IMO, as long as you rinse it out before you store it, and make sure you keep it clean after using it, and don't wad it up, it should be fine.
