Pre-race routine:

The goal today was a sub-30 min 5k, which is a pretty lofty goal for me.

Oatmeal with butter and brown sugar, emergen-C, carbBoom about 20 min before race. Remembered my foot anti-perspirant this time (anti-blister)
Event warmup:

Ran around for 10 min and stretched a little

Comments:

Went as fast as I felt was sustainable. I had planned to keep close tabs on my pace at each mile marker, but it was marked in km. I knew km well enough to watch my pace, but not as accurately as I'd planned. I didn't feel that great until about 20 min into the race and I think at that point my pace picked up a little. I definitely left it all out there.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing actually during the race. If I did more speedwork and ran more than twice a week, I'd probably be faster. Today I definitely left it all out on the course and ran as fast as I could. It is what it is!

I didn't make my goal, but I'm still very proud of my performance. I ran 10 min miles, which is great for me. I'll keep working on it and I'll get it by the end of the summer!
Post race
Warm down:

Fended off puking. Walked quickly to the bathroom and ALMOST lost the ounce that was in my bladder. Seriously close call.... I think that working so hard you puke is cool, but working so hard you pee isn't.... Why is that? Stretched, walked around the festival.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ummm, genetics, lack of speed training, general weiner tendencies

Event comments:

This is a great race. I did it last year and it's what got me back into racing. It's a fun race and the festival afterwards is awesome. They have tons of freebies and agility and flyball competitions. If you like dogs, it's awesome!

You know it was a great race when you didn't bring any leftover energy across the line with you!  Great job!

Don't know if this was a PR for you or not, but every race is different, and every day is different.  If you left it all out on the course you couldn't ask any more of yourself than you gave (particularly if you were that close to having body fluids coming out of one orifice or another!).  You should be happy with that race!
