So despite my excitement at gaining huge improvements in the run at my last tri, the PT interrupted my treddie run today to say I was bouncing too much.  So how do I smooth my horizon?  I don't feeeeel like I'm bouncing "a lot" -- sure, the monitor right in front of my face bobs in my field of vision, but not so much when looking at the one the next row up.

What tricks need I employ to get smoother?  Any ideas?

check out the animation from Newton's web site:http://newtonrunning.com/run-better/optimal-running-form

You can find a lot of good info on good running mechanics/form on their site.

I can't tell you how to do it but I know I changed and it made a big difference in my running.

Often when I start running I have to much upwards motion but it goes away quickly. I worked on my running technique and the first time after that I did a race, while warming up my husband couldn't find me. He noted that I didn't run like I used to and I looked like all the other runners. I took that a big compliment.

I learned a little trick the other day that helped me even out my stride.  Running a 5k after a bike workout my buddy tells me it looks like I'm bouncing a bit.  He suggested that I get my elbows back and drop my hands, like I was putting things in my pockets.  Immediately his Garmin showed us going from 8:30/MILE TO 8:17 with the same effort.  YMMV.

Do you know your running cadence, or turnover rate? A faster turnover at the same speed means shorter strides, so you spend less time in the air and you don't need to bounce as high. This is not to say that you necessarily have a slow cadence, but it's one thing to consider.

Without seeing you run, I would guess that you are pushing "up" from your toes at the end of your stride rather than pushing "forward". Some of that is speed, the faster you go, the more your stride will even out.

thanks for the links, I'll check them out.  I was thinking I'd get DH to video me, too, so I can try to see what the trainer was seeing.

Today I was running a slow pace, and I'm leggy, I wonder how much that influences the bounciness.  Maybe I'll get her to watch on the day I do intervals...  sigh.  too much thinking in this sport
