WWBTD?

I'm doing Diamondman HIM next Sunday, September 13.

I'm also training for IMCOZ (which is Nov 29).

I don't want to do a big taper but I don't want to go into the HIM totally exhuasted, either.  Should I cut out 6 hrs of my scheduled workouts since I'll be doing about that much on Sunday ?  Should I take off the day before?  Two days before? Go heavy the beginning of the week then rest a bit .... ?

From a newbie at the full distance, I'm following the Be Iron Fit 30 week training plan and have a HIM the same weekend as you, which falls 8 weeks out from B2B on Nov 7.  My plan calls for 16 hours of training this week, then next week it dials it down to 6:30 besides the race.  Looking it over I basically lose my long ride and run with some other workouts cut back a bit and no real interval work besides some pickups.

I get a rest day the day after the race, then the following week has 17 hours of training and no interval work, just z1/z2 type work for the week.

Good luck

I am doing the same as Rottieguy for the Redman Full Aquabike ... looks like we are following the same plan and doing the same race!

I never did a half while full IM training  but I did race shorted distances and do a marathon.  Typically you want that week to look more like a rest week while not cutting your volume as much as you would on a full taper.  Don't do extra the weekend before, you don't need to "make up for" what you will miss because you will get plenty of fitness gains from racing.  Do whatever you normally had scheduled the weekend before and then keep the intensity down and the volume down a bit race week while doing a slight taper.  Dont take off the two days before but rather make those warm up workouts.  Swim ez friday and do a s/b/r warm up on saturday at the race site (short warm up, equipment check kinda deal)
good luck and let us know how it goes!!

I trained right through Rhode Island with no taper. I felt surprisingly good on race day even though I too was worried about being exhausted. I had a slight reduction in volume and had a rest day a few days before the race and it worked very well. I did a 4 day recovery period afterward with light training and then went right back to normal.

I did a 1 week taper for my HIM (7 weeks before IM), rested 1 week after was a recovery level week and the next 3 were build weeks followed by a three week taper.  It is fine to have a HIM there, but your body, unless  you have a few years of IM level training under your belt, will need some recovery time.
