Austin, Texas or Jupiter, Florida | Subject: RE: USC vs Ohio State JChristoff - 2009-09-09 9:05 AM GomesBolt - 2009-09-09 8:58 AM No takers huh? Two?? There is only one Ohio State University. My Alma Mater does have the trademark rights to using OHIO on ads and sportsware, but that is Ohio University. I guess I am confused...In 2000, Miami had beaten Florida State and probably deserved to be in the championship, but then again, Washington had beaten Miami (rock smashes scissors) and should've been in the NC game. Either way, Oklahoma got a Florida State team that wasn't really deserving of their spot and beat them 13-2. Now, back to USC vs one of the two Ohio State Universities... I watched a little of the USC/SJSU game and a little of the Ohio State/Navy games on DVR and come to the conclusion that the gap will be wider, but not huge. Sorry, correction...there are 13 state universities from Ohio so it should be "one of the 13 Ohio State Universities." |

Never have. Remember Vince Young? Remember last year when Pryor had some pretty good success against them? (but wasn't left in the game because Sweater-Vest thought his senior should get the snaps). I think that could come-back to haunt USC. Not to pick-nits, but Pryor was 7/9 for 52 yards and had 40 yards on 11 carries. I'm a fan of USC. Not a FAN, but a fan and I can say that having watched probably 80% of their games over the last 6-7 years, Carroll's defenses have trouble against mobile QBs. I think USC will set a nice lead and OSU will catch-up toward the end to make it respectable. Oh, and Matt Barkley didn't have as much time to throw last year as he will all of this year. I think USC/FL will be the NC game (how's that for early predictions?) ETA: You lost me on the VY/Tebow comparison. I think you meant to say Texas/FL - USC will lose to Stanford or Oregon State or Cal (like they do every year recently) and now Texas has a pretty easy run to the Big 12 with Bradford hurt for a while and their stud TE out for the season. On a side note - Is Bob Stoops jinxed or what? Pretty easy run? Did you see Oklahoma State this weekend? And Bradford may be back by the Texas game as well. There's also a game against Kansas(who is ranked in the top 25) and the Big 12 title game against another top 25 team. It's not like the road is paved with gold now. |

Jinxed, no. Overrated? Yes... Big game Bob can't seem to do anything against TX or in a BCS game. His only win came against a team that shouldn't have been in the NC game who was it? Anyone? Answer coming in 10 seconds... Sweater vest is in the same boat also. But as long as he keeps beating Michigan nobody in Columbus is going to complain. You would think that they would recruit differently but I guess they know something we don't right? Should I go after this big slow kid or the medium sized wicked fast kid? Hmmm - big and slow beats small and fast in someones book, I just don't know the author's name! I think OSU's trying to recruit the fast kids but they have trouble recruiting a kid to go to the "rust belt" because they're competing with USC (Hollywood, Malibu, Song Girls) and Florida (Disneyworld, Beach, Sun Dresses). A lot of time, recruiting comes-down to Song Girls and Sun Dresses. Neither of which are in-season in Ohio around National Letter of Intent Signing date... |

Veteran 928 Columbus, Ohio | Subject: RE: USC vs Ohio State If the Buckeyes defense can keep USC's offense in check then we have a chance. I think we will score some points. I am just worried about the defense! Tressel will have them ready and the Shoe should be rockin. It will be an awesome atmosphere! |

I'm not sure I'd say they were outplayed or stole it, but credit is due to the Buckeyes for playing above their heads for a whole game. They're going through the same pains Texas had w/ Vince before the light went on, time will tell if Pryor figures it out. He needs to think a little less while he's out there imo. |

Austin, Texas or Jupiter, Florida | Subject: RE: USC vs Ohio State The Shoe gets credit for keeping it close. That said, I didn't really have a thought that SC would lose that game. It's kind of like watching the Steelers when they have the ball with 3 minutes left in the game. I'd be willing to bet Pete Carroll has the Special Teams Coach running wind-sprints with his guys this week. |

On a side note - Is Bob Stoops jinxed or what? Guess it is my turn to ask that question to you this week - Losing at home to Houston. Looks like the coach failed to convince his team that they were not that much better football team than Houston. Come to play or guess what - enjoy a low tier bowl game. Houston was a classic trap game, I can't say I'm surprised they lost(though they should have won on paper). Houston's been flying under the radar for a lot of people until now and they're probably on their way to an 8-10 win season. They've got Sumlin(former OU asst coach) as their HC and he's got a high-flying offense down there. Okie Lite's still a very good team, but I think top-15 is probably much more accurate than top-5. I still think the game will be tough for Texas, it's in Stillwater and both teams will still be in the mix for the Big 12 South title at that point. |

Expert 1207 Parker, Co | Subject: RE: USC vs Ohio State If there was ever a day..it was Saturday - safety on a punt - recover a backward pitch and get a field goal - 9 new starters on USC defense, Rookie QB....who gets hurt....cramps for the #1 threat most of the game ( although he did pull it out in the last drive)....and crucial penalties for field position all game!....and STILL OSU could not win...what does that tell you? Didnt see the "greatness" of USC O line either..if thats 4 1st rounders then heaven help the rest...they were under pressure the whole game... Tressel is too conservative...plays the percentages not the game... Looks like another SEC national champion!... Other games of note- Michigan State loses to C Michigan - other B10 opponents sneak by various Michigan directional schools....and in B12 - KSU loses to LA Laf, Colo to Toledo......parity? BCS will be a shake up this year - B East....no ranked teams and an Automatic bid...ACC looks horrible...outside of VA Tech...there will be more screaming than ever for a playoff!

How did the Buckeyes play "above their head"? Defense played a very good game while the offense was average. I think Tressel is a very good coach and the Buckeyes are lucky to have him. However, I do wish he would turn the page once and a while on the play book. A victory would have helped (not cured) our national reputation. A reputation we have unfortunately earned. Still love my Buckeyes and will always wear my scarlet and gray proudly! The stadium was electrifying and of course script O-H-I-O gave me chills as always! Edited by jacasa 2009-09-14 3:45 PM |
