If you had only been doing 5 or 6 mile runs and the race was a big increase in distance, then I would say you shouldn't do the half. If you had been doing 8 mile runs in your training before the race, then I think you will be OK to bump your training runs up to 9 then 10 miles or so and will be OK to get through the half. My longest run before the 8.5 run was two 7.5m runs and to tell the truth I felt okay at the end, I was not exhausted or felt that I could not go on. I could have done another mile or two and I would like to think I could have done 3 more in total, but I really don't know. I guess I will do a 10 mile run this week and see I feel after. |
