CajunMan featured as one of "Tri's Best Secrets - 10 Great Races you never heard of" in the July issue of "Inside Triathlon"

Here's a link to a copy of that article:

This one looks like lots of fun....still debating whether to enter or not since I have a sprint the following weekend in San Antonio.  Two weeks in a row might be a bit much

They've also posted the list of entrants here:

Tommy, looks like you're the only entry from New Mexico.

Race director promises the best packet/goodie bag ever, since this is the tenth anniversary.

OK, while I was plotting River Cities, I decided to post CajunMan bike route as well. As you can see, around Mile 14 there is a whopping 26-foot ascent, followed by an equally precipitous downhill.

Okay, I didn't know Cajunman would sell out so fast!  I guess the closet tri-ers come out for this one?

My husband and I are on the dreaded "waiting list"  What are our chances and is there anything we can do?  Most people have told me that if they can't make a race, they just don't show up. Sounds like something I'd have done in the past, but now I'm going to call ahead and give some poor schmos like us a chance to race!

Not exactly "closet tri-ers," it is the state championship short-course race and very competitive. It's a very well run race, good swag, great after-party, and only ~450 slots, so it always sells out in June.

Don't know the odds of getting in at this juncture, I've had friends who have gotten in late but had connections with the race director.

I like what River Cities is doing: packet pickup closes at 5pm Saturday, any packets not picked up by then are given to those on the waiting list.

waskelton - 2005-08-10 9:27 AM Let the CajunMan chatter resume!!

Is it to early to talk about BT get-togethers? Thirty-one days and counting! It was fun meeting everyone at River Cities, wouldn't mind doing something like that for CajunMan:

  1. Packet pick-up
  2. Lunch
  3. Visit race site, drive the bike course
  4. Get everyone settled in hotels
  5. Meet for early dinner

Anyone up to that?

Angel (Mrs. Bear) mentioned the possibility of having everyone to the house for dinner, I cook a pretty mean (if not simple) spaghetti and meat balls. Or would everyone prefer to eat out so that there would be a variety of menu items? No Macaroni Grill here (ours closed after about nine months due to lack of business) but we do have an Olive Garden, a Johnny Carino's, some good local Italian joint, plenty of other chains (Applebee's, Chili's), and tons of other restaurants (that's why MG didn't survive).

Here's the roll call so far

  • M/M waskelton
  • M/M Manatee Express
  • M/M 13 (H and JoAnnH)
  • zia cyclist
  • RGRBILL

Anyone else?

Hmmmmm, funny I don't remember agreeing to this race registration....  but since fees are non-refundable I guess I don't really have a choice.

Probably falls under the category of "Easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission."

I know old thread but I'm just reading through it, I have that quote, "if it's a good idea, go ahead and do it. It's much easier to apologize than it is to get permission." taped to my computer at work. It's a good one.

I'm up for either but I'd hate for ya'll to have to worry about a dinner party for 10 people the night before the race.

Also.. M/M waskelton have a shade canopy that we bought for River Cities that never got setup because there were plenty of trees providing shade. We'll be glad to offer it up as BT headquarters. Maybe we can get that BT.com banner that the group at St. Anthony's had to hang up.. (not sure if we could do it quite the justice they did by wrapping the beer keg with it )

I'm ready to race again!!!

I think the shade canopy will be a lot more necessary and appreciated at CajunMan, so it would be a great idea to bring it and use it for BTHQ.

If you're really chomping at the bit to race, we have a mini here weekend after next, benefits a great cause (local cancer outreach center) as part of a huge Games of Acadiana event here in town. This was my first ever tri last year, and I'm in again, if nothing else I figure it's a good place to hone those transitions.

http://www.lafayettefitness.org/Entryforms/2005_games_of_acadiana.pdf

Not as much swag as River Cities (who else does THAT?) but they did give us a nice golf shirt, much better than the usual T, which was excellent for a $25 entry fee.

I wouldn't want you guys to go through the trouble of hosting us the day before, so I vote for a restaurant. .

Which hotels are you recomending?

Which hotels are you recomending?

Anything but the official host hotel.

I've never stayed at a hotel here, most I can only vouch for their exterior appearance and their location. Closest to the race site (other than the host hotel) is the Comfort Inn, and it does look to be clean and well-maintained. Per their website, they have rooms available starting at $62.

Looking at hotels.com, others within a five-minute drive (nearly everything is within ten minutes) include the Hilton, Hotel Acadiana/Best Western, La Quinta (Pinhook), Courtyard, Extended Stay America, and America's Best Suites.

I'd stay away from anything on I-10, I-49 or the NE Evangeline Thruway (SE is better) not because they're bad areas, but because they're further from the race venue. Race site is slightly south and east of the city.

Really, it's hard to go too wrong, Lafayette is fairly compact and relatively easy to get around. I work downtown, yet I can be anywhere in the parish in 20 minutes in the middle of the day. Driving to the race site at 6am is going to be a piece of cake.

If you find something out there that you like, and you have a question, just ask.

One local race director is trying to pull together a fall duathlon, may give you yet another opportunity to display that running/biking prowess. I'll let you know if he gets it together. Of course there's always the Ironstar HIM outside Houston in October, I'm still thinking about it...

Here, I did a little search and found it, they're having it up the road a ways ath Butte La Rose, the Atchafalaya Welcome Center. Looks like it's shorter than what I heard (2/18/2 as opposed to 3/25/3). USAT certification pending, I'm hoping to use it as my third tri this year to get ranked. It'll be pretty far down, but I'll be ranked.
