Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Threadbmacdona - 2010-08-30 9:16 AM Ironman is about overcoming challenges so I had an awesome day. From elbows in the eye on swim, a bad stomach that prevented me from taking in any nutrition after hour 4 on the bike. Which led to complete leg cramping on the run. So after nobrunnig final 8 miles I finished with 12 minutes to spare. Nowhere near my goal, but I never gave up. A perfect example for the kids when they say they can't do something because they have a boo boo. I now can tell them to sit down and listen to my story! Great job, way to persevere! I had a great swim and bike (for me ) and only a 5 hr marathon stood between about a 12:30 finishing time. Unfortunately the heat and stupid decisions caused big time stomach problems starting at mile 4 of the run so I ended up walking/vomiting to an almost 7 hr marathon. If I had done other IM's before I am pretty sure I would have quit. I'm still happy to have just finished in about 14:40 with that 96 degree heat - I heard a lot of people talking about how it was the toughest IM they've done, plus with what I saw in the medical place afterwards (and on the course ), it could have been a lot worse. |
