I'm so excited! Last year's event was my first tri, and it was such a fun day. Now that I have 3 other races under my belt, that aren't reverse I have to say I prefer a traditional swim, bike, run order. That being said it is a really fun race, and being holiday themed there is a different spirit about it.

I finished in 1:18 last year. I'm hoping to shave 12 to 15 minutes of that and finish under 1:05.

Just thought I'd share my enthusiasm. And see if anyone else is looking forward to it.

I also did it last year with my two kids as a relay, this year I will do it solo as will my 12 and 15yr olds. I just did a reverse last week with the same distances in 1:02 so I am hoping to get under an hour with the bike course being so easy. I remember it was very cold at the beginning last year but it's a great event.

Good luck!

I did this as my first tri 2 years ago and skipped it last year due to injury.  We'll see how things go this year.  I'd like to do it just to see how far I've come in 2 years.

I'm considering this if my injuries quit freaking out on me! I'm not a fan of reverse tris, but this sounds like a lot of fun! The next two weeks will tell me if I'm injury-free enough to do this!

I did last years and had a great time (it was really cold at the start). This year I'm on a tri bike instead of a mountain bike so I'm also trying to break the 1 hour mark assuming I can stay healthy between now and then. My wife will be doing the Tinsel this year as her first tri. I have a race this weekend and I'm already excited for this one.

I'll be there again. Will be my 3rd year, and it should be fun with timing chips this year. Definitely a low-key, relaxed, pure fun event.

What is the bike course like? Any hills or rollers?

The bike course is pancake flat.  I seem to remember a slight rise for an overpass or something but other than that, completely flat.

It's really flat. Last year I averaged almost 22mph on my mountain bike.

My wife has an unexpected trip out of state that she now must take that weekend, so I may not be able to compete this year, unless I can find a baby sitter that's willing to baby sit starting at 5:00 am.

I was still on BT as a New Yorker, and just discovered the California forum! I'm heading out to Hemet next weekend and its going to be my first (and only) in about 13 years since I was about 13 years old! Less in shape than then, but just decided to get back into them. I hear it is a fun race and I'm really looking forward to getting back into it. No expectations, but I figure it will be a great baseline to see where I'm at! I also just invested in a road bike, so it will be nice to see how it performs! Hopefully the weather isn't the cold and rainy stuff like it is in LA today! My ride this morning left me a little soggy for a Monday return to work...Looking forward to meeting some folks, as I'm new to LA, anyone heading out there the night before?

I'm coming out the morning of the race, I just hope the weather decides to cooperate or it's going to be wet and wild out there.

When and where is this?  I just took something out to the garbage and I'm wondering if California has just been moved up to the Arctic Circle somehow.  Sooooo cold.

Hemet CA Sunday the 13th. http://www.tinseltriathlon.com/info.html

I think they may change the swim to 150m speed skating or sledding ... it's going to be really chilly out there.

What a rad idea - the Polar Triathlon.  Dive head first into bone chilling water and stay in for the longest 15 seconds of your life (wetsuits not legal), 60 miles of dog sledding across the frozen tundra, and then 10 miles of Nordic skiing.

Zoot or DeSoto or someone can come put with some faux bearskin/lycra fabrics.  Will be huge.

Don't mean to hijack the thread.

Weather Channel outlook is saying high of 61, low of 34, with a 30% chance of showers... Should be an interesting Sunday morning!
