NVM - didn't mean to offend anyone, especially the guy who put all this together.

And once again, yes, huge congrats to Keith.  This is obviously a huge testament to how well he runs his races, etc.

Sorry, folks, been travelling the past couple of days. YES, that is BIG news. Can't please everyone I guess....

I'd expect that most of the big names will be at the race, and that is VERY cool for the age groupers. Working on a dinner with the pros on Friday evening, on the beach. THen, pro panel on Saturday....

Just a tough crowd, I guess.....

This is great news Keith.  Thanks for the hard work.  I was already looking forward to the race, but I think with the beefed up pro field, it'll fun to be out there on the same course.

Any way to increase pro/AG interaction is great for the sport.

Keith....not trying to be a tough crowd, and I am sure your comment was directed at me, so let me apologize.  I do think this is great for you and for the sport, and especially for the pros with a nice prize purse.

But I had my hopes up that the announcement would be an IM in 2011 (yes, I know you said that wasn't the case, but the rumor mill has been flying for quite a while so some of us were holding on to the hope).  Thus, to me, the announcement just didn't have the same luster as an announcement of a full IM.

Again, my apologies if I offended...it was not intended and it wasn't fair to you after all the work you put into this.

This is AWESOME Keith!!!!!  Congrats man, you seem to always raise the bar; but you blew it out this time.   This is great news!  It is really going to draw a crowd.

This is BIG, and it's not just great for Keith and I'm not sure what Keith would get out of it really besides feeling more satisfied with doing a good job. RDs don't make much money. Maybe it's because I came into this sport as a fan and not to prove anything. I see this sport a bit differently than a lot of my fellow triathletes. Who have a lot of trouble looking past the 'me' part. Which isn't all together bad, but to complain about something like this? pffft.

There is a lot good about an event like this coming to Houston/Texas. First getting any big event in Houston is a warm welcome for the local scene. Houston is rather watered down when it comes to talent in Triathlon, though it's getting better as of the last year, but still for the town size... not that good. Getting an event with a big prize purse with lots of pros will generate more buzz, more coverage in the local papers and news. That's good stuff! Really good stuff! Hopefully it will get more kids into the sport and we can see more kids like Alistair Brownlee come out and show us what someone is really capable of in this sport. The more we can get a city behind triathlon the more we can develop as a sport. Which primarily means better races for all and more opportunities for kids.

Glad to see this, more so than an Ironman race. This and Gateway to the Bay are races that Houston/Galveston have been missing for a while, and we need it!

Between Gateway having Reed, Potts, and Lavelle and Lonestar having a Pro Championship I'll get to meet all the Pros in April. What a great start to the year! Certainly glad to be a new Texan!

Well, if come Monday the announcement involves the words "Ironman" and "Memorial Hermann" then I will be posting a big 'I told you so'. If it is about something else, then I will try and worm out of everything I have said on this thread, blame it on someone else, claim to be a victim, then go eat some bacon.

So you were half-right.

Don't give up hope, guys & gals. It could still happen... just saying.

Okay, well maybe not at Lonestar. Someday, Texas will have an iron-distance race.

Don't worry about it, I'd say the majority of triathlon participants aren't really fans of the sport(in the sense of pro competition) and most would see this as a bit of a let down. Given it's us who built it up to be something else anyhow.

Very Cool. Finally a big pro race in our neck of the country. Nice work Keith!

Since I got it half right, I'm gonna stick my neck out and hang onto the other half of my prediction. I was told a May announcement for 140.6 a couple days back. and since my sources seemed pretty accurate on the title sponsor, I'm gonna keep hoping.

Damn you!  You're just trying to keep this thread from dying aren't you.  3 more months of inane babble and speculation might be more than I can handle...

Unless we're discussion bacon.  In that case, please continue!

My guess is the pro field will be second to none. Maybe even better than Clearwater, as many of the top Kona folks don't do Clearwater. With a $75K purse, it'll be incredibly competitive and star-studded, I'd guess....

How do you post pics??? The announcement was on the huge billboard in Times Square today I have the pic, but don't know how to post
