Yep - that time a year again - and I don't know what he wants, short of a new truck (out of question).  He tends to just go and buy himself whatever he wants.   Oh - and we are only married 5 years.

Hobbies:

Guitar, Guns (we have a room in our home I call the ted nuggent room), outdoors (we are geologists), martial arts, movies, our dog, salsa dancing (I am on injured reserved list right now for that), archery.  he has a road and a mtn bike and enough gear for it.

I am thinking a gift certificate for the local movie theater - like enough for a year of once a month movie going.   Or maybe guitar lessons - he was self taught for the most part, but takes the occassional lesson set.

He could use some more wool sweaters.  boring.  a pedi/mani (oh - that is what I want....).  Some new hobby? - I once tried bird watching - got him a feeder, a book, and well, he kinda enjoys that we have alot of birds around, but it didn't really grab him.  If I don't fill the feeder, it sits empty.

Any ideas?    Last year I got him a Pendleton wool jacket that had an indian design on it and he calls it his Steven Segal jacket.....   He looks like a younger, thinner, and Asian Steven Segal.....

Maybe instead of a 'thing' get him a 'do' (or just do him...wait you're 'booty girl', you're probly good there...) Tickets to something that would be fun but he'd never ordinarily go. Like we keep saying that going to the zoo would be fun, but then never go. What about tickets to a play or a movie. Do they have hot air balloon rides near you? What about the "driving a race car" lessons? Massage? Music?  The guitar lessons are a good idea - my dh likes to choose his own though.

Oh! You could get him a Steve Vai video. That's what my DH got for his bday. I am listening to it right now. Again. It sounds a lot like when I heard it yesterday.

Does he reload? Does he carry? Does he have a good belt?

If he's interested in reloading:

Get him a set of dies and that's all you need to start. Warning, it's a very addictive hobby.

If he's been reloading, there are a lot of little things that are nice to have, like:

Do you travel with his guitar? There are nice cases that you could drive over and it'd not bother the instrument.
Something like this for acoustic:

ell-in-or - 2009-11-25 1:55 AM The guitar lessons are a good idea - my dh likes to choose his own though.

She could always just "make" a gift certificate for X amount of dollars, to be used toward guitar lessons (with the instructor of his choice). This is a common gift type in my family - if there is something non-material that we want for which you can't buy a gift card, or we don't know the specifics of what a person wants, we'll do a "gift certificate" in a cute card, that says "This is good for < insert activity/item >" and either give them the cash then, or give it to them when it comes time to purchase the item. This is how I fund some of my races - for my birthday, my sis usually "gives"  me a race, the entry fee to one sprint (about $50-$60). Plus, it's so much better than trying to figure out more "stuff" to buy someone.

I like the guitar lesson idea. Because of the whole job situation, I'm asking for the same thing for Christmas, so I don't have to quit

I know where he goes for his guitar lessons, so that choice won't be blind.   They want to "place" him in a band....    he has good rocker hair.

Due to weight training, he may have expanded out of his sportcoat shoulders and he may need some new  for an upcoming professional conference....   boorrring.   but he needs them.

Yeah, we, ah..."do" just fine without needing occassions....

One can never have enough shotgun shells and such, just ask my brothers-in-law, the red-neck hunters.

Well, it wound up being an odd mixed gift basked of items he likes (anchovie stuffed olives, for example) and some winter toys (sleds!) and we went out today and peppered the desert with lead.  I married Tarzan but he is turning into Clint Eastwood.

I am making grilled shrimp wrapped in bacon with pesto pasta and salad tonight.

oh - and we got new phones.  we spent 2 hours in Verizon setting things up.   What is up with that?

Oh - and another thing.....Did someone with less than 15 posts just slam my last years gift?   He loved getting that jacket and everytime he wears it, he says something to me about it.

What sort of guns, and what does he actually do with them? Does he hunt? Go to a firing range? Just polish them and admire?

Guitar lessons would be pretty cool. Maybe some concert that's coming into town.

He collects and refurbishes WWII rifles, carries them in the field with him, shoots targets in the desert, carries concealed on occassion.  I want him to hunt.
