Pre-race routine:

Since this was not a race, I took some time at home to stretch and get going. I didn't feel great and so I decided to let my planned start time slip in favor of easing into the day.
Event warmup:

Drive 40 miles to the start line. LOL
Bike
  • 5h 13m
  • 100 miles
  • 19.17 mile/hr
Comments:

Had the urge to capture the even in more detail, but figured I could leave all that in my logs.
It was a fantastic day of riding. My longest ride ever. I suppose last weekend's 62 miles was the previous record. It's funny, as hard as I rode, I could have made it around again (if I HAD to). I'm happier about that than completing the distance or the speed I held. At least I'd have a shot at a marathon! ;)
What would you do differently?:

Start 2 hours earlier to get out of stupid bike traffic!!!
Post race
Warm down:

~20 min jog. Had to try a brick, right? I know, I should have planned it and actually run for a while. Just didn't think to bring the shoes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Climbing over 5,500', big rolling hills, semis, stupid people not riding to their right, hard right turns at the bottom of big-ass hills (dang, I hate that!) ;)

Event comments:

Not a race, but very well put on. There were many many riding volunteers and about 8 aid stations on the course. (there were several courses). Very impressive organization - even though I couldn't seem to find the start line!! :)
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that there were over 200 riding volunteers on the century course. I passed 10-20 riding in "MEDIC" jerseys.

Performance: Good
Wind: Some with gusts
Course: Between Denver and Colorado Springs. Started with a view of the snowy, steep north face of Pikes Peak. At about mile 70 it occurred to me (a seasoned mountaineer) that I was looking up at an entirely different aspect of the mountain in the distance. As far away as the peak was, I was suddenly impressed be how far 100 miles is! Did I mention that I thought the course was flat!?!?!? I climbed over a mile, I think it was 5,640 feet!
