I rate the Shock Top Belgian White as "meh".

Hit me with another 6-pack suggestion for my next b...double-e...double-r...u...n, beerrun, in the future.

Thanks.

so calling it "meh" means it's cute and funny and awesome, right? Wink

Meh is not "meh".  Meh is you and perfectly described by you, above, Lady Swole, whereas "meh" is "I-can-either-take-it-or-I-can-leave-it".  *wink wink backatcha*

I was in Kentucky a few months ago and tried Kentucky Bourbon Ale, awesome. The ale is aged in bourbon casks for several weeks and it picks up a mild whiskey flavor. If you like bourbon and beer you must try it.

Now that it's the holidays, here are some other good seasonal options I've tried recently:

Wassail Ale - Full Sail Brewery
Harpoon Winter Warmer

I had the Harpoon last night.  Tasty.  I have the Wassail Ale in my ice box and will partake of that this evening.  Looking forward to it...

I would have to respectfully disagree.  I had my first experience with Yuengling at the VA Beach Marathon and became a fan.  Can't get it in Central TX but I would drink it if I could.

If you are in Minnesota anything by Brau Brothers, I especially like the Sheeps Head - it's a bitter ale similar to Sierra Nevada Pale but much better.
I used to live in Colorado and was a hardcore New Belgium Brewing guy, I think Brau Brothers has them beat.

Also Surly Brewing in MN is fantastic.

Goose Island out of Chicago is more widely distributed though. Their Honkers Ale and Bourbon County Stout are my two favorites. 312 is great also but much lighter, more of a summer brew

12 pack of the Sam Adams winter seasonal stock completed, and, I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed the Winter Lager.

Now, have to go back through 5 pages and determine my next selection.  Decisions, decisions.

Personally, I dislike IPAs. Just not a fan. I definitely prefer dark beers, and heavier ones.

That being said, here's an uncomprehensive list of things I like:

- Sam Smiths Double Chocolate Stout
- Weyerbacher's Blithering Idiot
- Weyerbacher's Old Heathen
- Old Rasputin Imperial Stout
- Russian River's Damnation
- Russian River's Salvation
- Old Dominion's Oak Barrel Stout

I love my IPA...a 5 Barrel waiting for me when i get home.  I also enjoy the darker beers and Sam Smiths is a good one.  I just can't drink too many of them.  Too heavy for me.  Another dark beer I will add is 1554, a dark ale brewed by New Belgium (sam brewer as Fat Tire.  Don't know if it's available in you location but if it is...give it a try.

You're going to make this tough, aren't you?  DANG YOU, SCOUT!

- Smuttynose Porter
- Flying Dog has some really great brews, and a wide variety of options, I recommend the sampler pack
- Bell has a good stout, I'm blanking on the name as I've only had it once
- Clipper City, if you can get your hands on one of the Heavy Seas sampler, I recommend that
- Troeg's Mad Elf; I warn you, this will knock you in the dirt if you're not careful, and it is VERY easy to not be careful with it.
- Brooklyn has a couple good ones, but I've not had their stuff in a while; I seem to recall their chocolate stout being pretty good, though.
- Great Lakes has some really good beers, I'm partial to the porter.

Anything you can find that has spent time in bourbon casks is almost always very smooth and delicious. Porters and stouts finished this way are almost always at the top of my tasting list.

If you want something lighter, I will always go for a true hefeweisen. That means one from Germany, or German-style brewers. This does NOT mean Blue Moon. Oh, and leave the fruit out off the glass; it's completely unnecessary and kills the underlying flavor of a good beer. I'm also partial to bock beers, but those have been hard to find here (stupid PA blue laws). Also, dunkels; also hard to find good ones here.

And never use frosted mugs. Nothing kills the flavor of beer more than a frosted mug. Worst invention ever.

If you like big stouts (I'm guessing from the Imperial/Russian selections), you should get your hands on Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout. And get a friend to help you.

Personally, I drink a wide variety of beer. Instead of specific beers, I'll just give you the good beer that we can get in Wisconsin (and other places as well).

Lagnuitas-somewhere in California; favorite new brewery
Dogfish Head- Delaware; non-stop amazingness
Ale Asylum- Madison; used to work with Dean, great brewer, relatively low prices out here
Goose Island- Michigan I think; another all-around great brewing co.
Stone Brewing Co.- San Diego (?)- they're better with their hops than the other stuff, but it's all pretty darn tasty
Founders- not sure about locale- If you can find the Porter, buy it all in bulk and don't share it. It's the best porter in existence.

Some specific brews whose breweries are slipping my mind right now:

Monk's Cafe Sour Red something something
Triple Karmeliet

Word.

Sam Adams Revolutionary Rye Ale - just amazing.  Don't know which sampler pack it came from but Scotch Ale was in there too.

The frut-based beers from Sam Adams - meh.  Otherwise Sam Adams can do no wrong.
