Overall Rank = 61/222
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 1/11
Pre-race routine:

The night before, my husband and I spent the night at a hotel because the race was a few hours from our house. We rose early and got to the race with plenty of time for me to set up my transition area and get mentally ready.
Event warmup:

I had one hammer gel pack and a bottle of water. I jumped in the water and did a very short warm-up because the water was freezing.
Swim
  • 13m 57s
  • 600 meters
  • 02m 20s / 100 meters
Comments:

It had rained the night before so the top 3 inches were freezing cold. Underneath the surface, the water was not quite as cold.

I had a very poor swim. I felt a lot of pressure on my lungs from the cold water. It was hard to breathe. Normally I can breathe every 3rd or 4th stroke but during this race, I was breathing every stroke.
What would you do differently?:

I think I might have worn a wetsuit, although, I don't own one and I won't want to take the time in my transition to take it off.
Transition 1
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

I had a little trouble clipping into my pedals.

I'm going without soxes and sunglasses; that saved me a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

nothing really, t1 was a good transition.
Bike
  • 35m 2s
  • 12 miles
  • 20.55 mile/hr
Comments:

I gained a lot of time on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

t2 was good.
What would you do differently?:

I made the mistake of drinking some accelerade right before I started the run and so I had water in my stomach. Next time I need to finish the bottle before I dismount the bike, instead of drinking during t2.
Run
  • 22m 56s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm pleased with a sub-23 minute time. I haven't run that fast since my freshman year of college.

I met James Reeves on the run course. It was fun to have a buddy for a few minutes.
Post race
Warm down:

I took some endurox, which really helps. I also stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stupid swim.

Event comments:

I met my two goals for the race:
1. sub- 1:15 time
2. collect hardware

This was my first race of the season and the best race ever!

Numero Uno!  The race is to the swift which you were.  Those run and bike splits are out of sight.  I wish I had put in a prediction on this race too.

Way to go Speed Queen.  (I think we need to retire the Inspiration Queen moniker.)

Wow - fabulous time! Congratulations!! I was number 11 (as in your 1/11 age group finish), so I certainly admire you!

I think your report just made my day, too! If someone as talented as you had problems breathing on the swim due to the temperature, maybe that was part of my problem too (and not just nerves). Good to hear that it might not have just been me!
