Subject: Search Feature....
Why does my search function never yeild me any matches? I hate having to start a new thread when I'm 100% sure that there are probably 100 threads on subjects I want to read up on....

Can anyone help me out?

Are you setting the date limit to "All posts"?

Forums used to have a great search feature, but sinc ethe last major update, all it searches now is thread titles, not the individual posts themselves.

i'll see what can be done...it got dumbed down some before we went to the new server as when people put in multiple keywords and search ALL the posts, that function really slowed the site down and maxed the processor out....maybe with the new server we will be better...

we'll see...i'll check on that.

try it now...we have just installed an advanced SQL server feature allowing full text searching over large date ranges without sacrificing server performance.

let me know how it works.

Mostly good with one problem.

Any non-quoted, non-boolean search string composed of multiple words results in an HTTP 500 error. eg

  • wetsuit hole = error
  • "wetsuit hole" = no error
  • wetsuit AND hole = no error

This could probably be solved by tokenizing these strings before a search, or you may just want to return a page with search instructions.
