I am ready to roll for IM Lakp Placid July 25th, but I would like to try to get a 70.3 in before my Ironman. I have done two 70.3's before just for clarification. I am looking at a race June 28th, do you think this is too close to my Ironman event? I am 20 years old so I can recover a little quicker. Take me about 5-7 days to recover. What are your thoughts? All IM vets please help

I wouldn't, you might think you can recover quickly (you age deosn't have anything ot do with that, your fitness does) but it will have an impact on your training build for IMLP. So assuming IMLP is your goal race, I would not do a 70.3 a month before.

I agree with Bryan.

A 70.3 two months ahead of time is fine, but I wouldn't race one with 4 weeks to go.

I wouldn't do it.  Half Irons are not races you just do to get some practice leading up to an Ironman.  They'll require some serious recovery time that could be better used doing normal training.  It'll probably interfere with your taper as well.  Tapering and race recovery are two totally separate beasts, and I can't imagine they'd work well together.

Disclaimer:  Not an Ironman, but I know what a 70.3 can do to your body.

I wouldn't do it.  Half Irons are not races you just do to get some practice leading up to an Ironman.

They can be, but only as part of a plan and only far enough in advance so that the key Ironman training sessions aren't compromised. 30 days before an Ironman you should be getting in some of your biggest training volume prior to the taper, so a Half would put a serious dent in that.

I'm planning on doing Racine 70.3 prior to IM WI this year.  However they are separated by 8 weeks and I'm still a little nervous about the length between the events.  I think 4 weeks is cutting it to close.

I'll chime in with another no. I did one 5 weeks out from IMAZ, not that that was too close, but it messed with final build/taper. 4 weeks not even a question. 8 weeks out would have been ideal

My plan that I followed last year called for a half 10 weeks before the full.

Greg

My plan called for a HIM 8 weeks out and I thought it worked out real well, the week after was a lighter week with easy aerobic work no intervals, then the next week I started on the final build.  All in all I was happy with the placement.  4 weeks is just to close to the big day.
