Any/all suggestions as to transportation/parking for a newbie; will be coming in from the Mid-Cities, didn't know if the TRE was an option.

I second the transportation/parking request...I too am a first timer to this race.  I am coming from Keller.  I was thinking of leaving real early(3 or 4am)...parking in one of the ramps on the northeast side of downtown and then catching a nap in the car until race time.  I hear there are record numbers of runners this year so I'm betting it is going to be pretty crazy down there.

Thoughts??

i'd say get there plenty early and park in one of the parking garages.  you'll have to walk a couple blocks, but its better IMO to get a free spot early.  they do fill up fast!

We are coming from Keller too.  This is our 4th year and have never had an issue getting a parking spot.  Lots of free parking in the garages a few blocks away from Sundance Square.

Another vote for the garages by Sundance square. There seemed to be lots of parking available there last year.

That said, we will get there early in part to make sure we have no trouble finding a spot and for packet pickup.

ok....now what to wear...ugh!  33 deg at start time and 55 by noon (yes, I will be THAT slow). Laughing Rain predicted the day before and the day after but partly sunny on race day.  I hope that part holds out to be true!! Texas weather is so STRANGE this time of year.

You should be cold at the start.

I'm doing the same thing for the Half lol Nice little rear-ender in January derailed me, and then an awesome sinus infection after that! But yeah, I need #2 medal! I've been doing a walk/run thing and it seems to be getting me through. (Got a 10-miler in last weekend). After each mile I walk .10 mile.

Half for me!  Not trained up for it, so will no doubt be a run/walk thing.  Yes, I 'm a sucker for the finisher's medal and my friend talked me into it.  Have fun everyone....let's hope it's not snowing again...too much

Yep, will be my #2 cowtown medal in the series too.  I think it's purple this time .  Smart marketing to get us hooked in!  Your plan sounds familiar....I got in a couple of 10 milers (run 2.5 miles, walk 0.5, repeat), so the last 3 miles will be "interesting".

Another one suckered in by the medals here.  I think I am going with capri tights, LS tech and fleece vest.  I know Tommy is right and you want to be cold at the start, but I HATE THE COLD

5k or 10k or enter the 10k and run really fast with someone to push them harder and drop out at 5k if I can't take the pain anymore.

AMEN!! I moved to TX from Wisconsin to get away from the cold!!  My blood has thinned a lot in the 16 years I've been here...I TOO HATE THE COLD!!  I'm planning on Tights, LS Tech, Sugoi wind breaker (I can roll it up and stuff in down the back of my shirt when/if it warms up enough).  I bought some cheapie walmart sweats to wear while waiting at the start that I can ditch right away.  I guess I'm ready...

How'd everyone do?
I know the weather was a big point in this thread... I wore pants and a long sleeved shirt over a short sleeved shirt. I immediately got hot in the first 2 miles. Shed the long sleeves at mile 6 and completely overheated by mile 9. I SOOOOO wish I would have been wearing shorts or capris at the least. So hot.

But it was a GORGEOUS day later, no? Wow, you couldn't have asked for a more perfect afternoon and evening

Also - does anyone know what the deal was with the first women marathoner crossing the finish line but she really only did the half? Did she take a wrong turn? Do it on purpose? Think she was on the full course and somehow wound up at the finish line? In the last half mile she was running right next to me and I saw she had a yellow (full marathon) bib on. She even had a police escort and they asked if she was a full marathoner - to which she answered YES. One lady asked if she was the leader and she shook her head and said 'no' but apparently she was the first to cross the finish line, only to admit she only did the half? My friends said there was a lot of drama right then, cause if she really had run the full course it would have smashed the course record by a ton. Anyway, just wondering if anyone knew what happened since I was running with her side by side in the last mile (at 11:30 pace, LOL!).

What a great day to race. My brother in law beat me by 30 seconds and I'm supposed to be the runner of ther family. We could not ask for a better day to race though, although I was scared when I scraped ice off my car at 5:45 in the morning.
