Donkey Man  - May 31st 2010 (as seen on The Distance)

I am starting the thread early for all the input I can get.  This training day will be another great time.  I am open to suggestions

Format:

Start around 8:30am (We can always hope)

Big Carrot

Little Carrot

Everything would be out and back, just the Big carrot goes farther than the Little Carrot.  Hopefully this will result in less lost people and more people seeing each other.

There is no Road support/SAG vehicle, so bring your cell phone.  Hopefully I can bribe someone to watch the water on the kayak again, the water will be COLD and last year we did need some help.  But I am thinking of keeping it closer to shore to keep everyone safe.  After I swim in May I will plot a course.

Drafting is legal - I actually encourage people to stay together for safety.  The course above should be a little better in terms of traffic but may change after the spring rides.  This id pending road construction and pea gravel

I will keep updating and bumping this thread as we move into Spring.  I will Also have it up on my Training Log.

**Remember this is a training day and the course is not closed.  As a result there is no entry fee, we just hope you can bring food to share. Last year we had almost 30.  I have sponsorship from Hammer for 40 goodie bags.  This will be open to Donkeys and Previous Trainees first.  The limit will be 40 as a hard cap.

I'll be there this year, hopefully.

"... the water will be cold ..."  How cold?

Cannot confirm or consider anything yet due to plans already.  But that big carrot sounds like a nice training day.

Count me in, unless the wife, kids, or life changes my schedule and puts the Kaboosh on it.

I am still in my taper from Frozen Man.....so I will be ready.  Sounds like a blast.

In the spirit of no serious racing this year - fun only - I think I could be in. Can you recommend any nearby camping spots? It's a long drive from Madison.

Should be less than 2 hours drive from Madison. I head to Oshkosh from Stoughton every year for the fly-in, takes about 1.5 hours.

Sounds great....just one question. As IM completly new and beginning this journey.

Would I be able to participate and not do the swim. Although I can swim, Im uncertain on the distance as of yet and no wet suit. I would hate to jeopardize myself or someone else if I get in trouble.

I have just begun a 5k training plan and my biking is fairly strong.

I would like to meet some new people to help me with questions and gain some more active and healthy folks to be with.

You will be required to wade in the water for the duration of the swim time - it's only fair if the rest of us are gonna be all frozen then at least you should have frozen feet.

Kidding. I have no authority. We're a pretty flexible bunch and this is really just for fun. So, I would say, "sure, why not!?!" But, I'd encourage you to give the swim a try in the shallows. Practice is good.

ha ha ha....good point.

If shallow enough thats one thing. I have never had any formal swim for any type of distance yet. I was hoping to spend a few weeks doing some dualthons, and work in the swimming over the summer.

I figure for a sprint I should be able to splash my way though it....LOL

It will be my first one too...so we can splash through together.
