Ashland Olympic Distance - Triathlon

View Member's Race Log
Ashland, MA

Overcast
Total Time = 2h 26m 27s
Overall Rank = 38/311
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 9/25
Pre-race routine:

Coffee, bagel with peanut butter, endurox excel, multivitamin
I totaly screwed up my pre-race routine... I didn't drank my usual 24oz of gatorade endurance, nor took 2 edurolytes
Event warmup:

Short 10 min run; stretching, light 5 min swim
Swim
  • 24m 40s
  • 1760 yards
  • 01m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

my swim continues to be my weakest leg
What would you do differently?:

swim much more... practice, practice, practice
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

the lake was at least 1/4 of mile away from T1 on a trail up hill. I had to run barefoot up that hill and then to T1.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 26s
  • 26 miles
  • 20.68 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to work much more on my bike. I want to be able to do 22mph+ on Oly distances. I drabk too much liquid too often to make up for what I didn't drink prior the race. I also forgot to take my 2nd GU right before the run...
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

At that point I could feel I wasn't hydrate properly
Run
  • 40m 50s
  • 6 miles
  • 06m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

my run continues to be my strongest leg. During this leg I suffer the consequences of poorly pre race hydrayion and missing my endurolyes. Since I tried to make up for my lack of hydration prior the race I drank too much too often while biking and that forced me to stop to water the woods! I also started cramping 1.5 miles to go
Post race
Warm down:

Endurox R4, pretzels, water, Light strechting

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sat before the race I did a bike ride for 70 miles. I knew I was going to be tired but it wasn't an "A" race. I decided to compete the night before the race and my plan was to hammered it as much as posible during the bike. My lack of hydration affected my performance the most.

Event comments:

ALWAYS drink before the race, take endurolytes and follow the hydration-nutrition plan as established before the race.

Jorge, nice race.

Did you happen to hear anything about one of the elite collapsing and dying at the finish?  He was in the 20-24 group.  It's all so senseless, I just wish I had some details (as if that would make it make sense somehow.)

Well aparently it was well after the race though I remember I was looking at my results at the end of the race and there were people running to the medical van and asking for help. I posted an article from the Boston Globe but I still don't understand the reason. it is so sad...
