I see a few others on the board signed up.  This will be my first HIM and hoping to just be able to make it through the swimming portion with a decent time.  I have only been swimming for a few months so I'm really, really slow.  I probably don't know what I've gotten myself into with this but I love a good challenge and I don't have anything else to do this spring/summer.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!  Anyone from Lubbock on here?

Thanks for gettin' this party started... There is a fairly large contingent of us FLAT Houston triathletes headed north in June.  Did it last year, swore I'd never do it again... and then a few weeks later I swore I had to go back and redeem myself! HA!

You will be golden... plenty of time to prepare for the swim.  It's a 'cool water' swim and a fairly decent swim course, so no worries.  You have the advantage of living there... can train in the conditions and terrain, unlike us flat landers to the south.

I am just praying for the same kind of weather in June we had last year... please no 100+ temps!

Don't know what the weather was like last year, just do long as the wind doesn't blow like it did today(30-40+ mph winds, gusting to 500mph) I will be happy.  I should be fine for the swim, just had a bad week in the pool.
I swore the next day after my first marathon I would not do another...I hurt so bad.  I don't know why I keep running them.  I feel the same way afterwards.

Looks like quite a pro field for this year's BSLT. Hope I can be off the bike in time to see them sprinting for the finish!

Has any of y'all eaten at Orlando's Italian restaurant there in Lubbock?  I saw delivery bags (trash) outside a few rooms at the host hotel last year.  There are a few coupons available on-line for take-out & delivery.  I brought all my own food last year, but was thinking of maybe venturing out this year.

Anyone start checking the weather?  It looks like BSLT weather will be back to normal - sunny, hot, dry and windy.  The past 2 years have been abnormally cool.  Last year was overcast, some rain and mild temps.

There's an announcement on the website that basically says there's a very good chance that the race won't be wetsuit legal due to temps above 78 degrees.  I think you're still good to go to wear one as long as it's not above 84, but you are no longer in the running for AG awards/prizes.  Bummer.

Clydesdales represent!

This is my second Half-Ironman, (my first was Montauk back in October...)

Don't know why I keep doing this to myself.

I've rented a car (I'll be flying in from NYC) - If anyone wants to do a Wal-Mart run on Saturday (not a run - a drive to Wal-Mart for supplies) - Let me know - On Twitter I'm @skydiver - Happy to take anyone I can fit in the car with me.

This is gonna be a tough one. Sadly, I've got no support crew or friends this time - So I think I'm gonna be on my own.

Any other Clydesdales in this one on the boards?

I posted a few times on the boards before Montauk...

Let me know if I can help anyone out there - I'll have a lot of free time on Sat.

-Peter

That is correct.  You can't wear anything in your ears except a hearing aid.

This was utter hell. From the headwinds on the bike to the blazing hot sun to the HILLS (I thought Texas was a flat state....) This was truly, truly brutal.

Anyone else?

LOL.  Lubbock is flat, Ransom Canyon is not.  At least it wasn't windy yesterday!  How did you do?

I was out there representing the Clydes as well, and I second the brutality.  But, it was my first 70.3 and I finished, so I'm happy with that.  I'm going 70.3 again in September at Augusta, and hoping that it's better.
