Sounds like you had a solid race.

Was the last 2 miles of the run you described literally running through sand and coral/rocks...sort of like a trail run?

yes, it was definitely a trail run in sections, and the finish was running through sand.

started off in a lava field out of the transition area, that was about 1/2 mile, then most of the course was paved road, & sidewalk, the last 2 miles was really tough IMHO. I had to be really careful running over the coral and lava rocks.

I did enjoy the scenic views in the last 2 miles, although it was quite difficult to run through.

wow...you would think they would be worried about liability issues with people falling...but it does sound like fun.

Sounds like you had a good race. I'm bummed I couldn't make it for the race this year because I absolutely loved doing the race last year.

How were the winds on the bike? Last year was brutal with a 20 mph headwind from the turnaround all the way back to the resort. It felt like biking uphill while going downhill.

sorry you couldn't make it, but there's the sept lavaman in keauhou !

although really windy all night to the time we rode to transition, lucky for us, the winds calmed down and it wasn't a factor. A little headwind for a bit, but nothing to complain about.

I heard about last years winds..
