Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 24m 22s
Overall Rank = 10/101
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/19
Pre-race routine:

Woke up super early, so I ate breakfast and read my book until it was time to go. I was already packed.
Event warmup:

I jogged to get a drink after the pre-race meeting that was at 8:30. My wave started at 9, so I swam a 50 and called it good.
Swim
  • 08m 59s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was overall good. I lost my timing chip right away so I had to stop and re-velcro. Swimmer 3 in the lane passed me, but I was right on her feet for a 100 or 200, then I passed her. I caught Sally before the end also. The counters on the end put a kickboard in to tell us we had a 50 to go, which was great as I lost count (like usual)
What would you do differently?:

Not lose my chip in the 1st 10 yards. Have nicer weather so I wouldn't have to spend 2 minutes getting dressed inside before running out into the cold rain
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

I dressed in the pool room, but I still put on my raincoat outside, helmet and garmin. So that took a little bit of time
What would you do differently?:

Again - change the weather? :)
Bike
  • 46m 46s
  • 13.7 miles
  • 17.58 mile/hr
Comments:

At the turn-around, I didn't brake enough or unclip. I very nearly lost it in the gravel. Overall, I did much better than I had hoped for and was pleased. The winds weren't as bad as I have been in this season, but there was a strong headwind for a couple of miles - otherwise, mostly crosswinds.
What would you do differently?:

Change the weather?
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

I realized out on the bike that I didn't untie my running shoes from when I kicked them off the last time. So, I had to deal with that when I got off the bike. I also knocked some guys bike off the rack, so I picked that back up. Had a problem getting my running hat on.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my shoes were untied before I put them in transition! Maybe not wear a running hat. Even if I have helmet hair.
Run
  • 25m 34s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

I could have pushed it a little faster at points, but I was getting tired and I didn't want to blow up before the end. The boardwalk was SO slippery. I nearly fell and had to jump off at one point to avoid falling as I lost my footing.
What would you do differently?:

Push it a little harder in the last mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Cheered on my fellow competitors as my friends started in the same swim wave.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weather - stupidity

Event comments:

I enjoy this race. It is well run, and at my alma mater! I swam 1 year in college in that pool (sniff, sniff). Anyways, I like that it is an early event to give you a taste of competition. I haven't done the latebird race, but it would be interesting to see how my time would compare. Perhaps I should add it to the schedule.....

Wish I would have know it was you! And no mention of the hardware? Nice job on taking 3rd! Tough competition out there with Jennifer Harrison and Heather Curnutt in our age group. And can we say your idea of flat with "gentle rollers" is definitely different then my "hilly" course that I road! Yes there were flat areas but those were not rollers!
