Fast enough to "chick" a good % of the male field on race day

I don't go 88 mph anymore. I did that once while trying to get away from some terrorists and ended up almost sleeping with my mom, so now I keep it 87 mph or slower.

Honestly.....about 16mph on my training rides.  Knowing that tells you nothing, though.  I live in a really hilly area.....and I'm not pushing it at this stage of my trying only to build base miles.

Riding in Fl (there on bus.), I found it pretty easy to avg. 18+mph..  NO HILLS!....lol.

If I could avg. 18mph in my first two events, I'd feel like I was LA.

Varies considerably, but not all that fast.  2 races I did last year w/ some hills averaged just under 20 mph, which I think was around 30-40% in my AG (M40-44).  I'd like to get that up to 21+ mph and 20-25% on those courses, but riding gains are much less of a priority this year than bringing my run along so that I'm no longer a BOP runner.  Might replace the cheap training wheels I ride on and see if I can buy a little speed at the races, though building the engine is a surer bet.  If I can bring my run from 70+ percentile down closer to my bike by the end of this season, then I'll refocus on the bike at that stage.

Training rides are all much slower than that, because of stops, mounts/dismounts for barriers, substantial climbing on most routes, and varying levels of fitness throughout the year.  Depending on the ride, the day, etc., I might be 14 mph, or up to 19-20 mph if with a group and more flat.  Today was 16+ mph with 3k feet of climbing, 6 dismounts and numerous stops over 20 miles.  My shortest route has ~2k ft. climbing and over 30 stops in it, which eats into speed considerably, so 14 mph on that isn't half bad.

I have been averaging around 21. mph on around a 15 mile sprint and around 19 mph on a 40 mile ride.

What kind of speed do your ride at?

Not fast enough. My speed sucks right now and I'm completely p@ssed off about it.

Hopefully I can go fast enough not to get dropped in a group ride tomorrow!!!

The program used above is Garmin Connect. Works pretty good by me too.

...see if I can buy a little speed

Speed is easily bought(not cheap) but not a very useful metric analyzed by itself to gauge ability or performance.   i.e. last month I did my first tri(oly) at 15.2mph - on a single speed in running shoes and was damn proud.  A few years ago in a previous biking life did a 40K TT with full aerone$$ on a similar course at 28.3mph.  Pretty much the same w/kg output in both events.  Both types of racing were interesting and rewarding but I had more fun training and racing on the single speed.
My tri goal is to win a sprint AG on a single speed! Cool

This.  It's a "providing pace booty" public service. You're welcome. Cool

All kidding aside, I averaged 27 on during the bike leg at my race this past weekend.

Wait, I just realized I have my bike computer set to KM/hr.

Frig!

TT I was going to do earlier this year... guy who won the Cat 1/2 did average around 27mph.  Blazing fast!  Everyone else was in the 23-25mph range on the podiums.

How fast I go depends on the course.  My training rides are in the 22mph range presently.

Just did a brick workout, 44mile ride @ 19mph average, followed by easy two mile run at 8:00/mile pace.

One day I'd like to see that be in the 20s, but that's what training is for right?

Depends on the distance and goal. Yesterday's long ride with 100 miles, 19mph average, trying to keep the HR low, 126bpm average. On a shorter, quicker ride under the week I'll go 25-35 miles and average 22-23mph at around 140-145bpm, depends on how I'm feeling.
