Pre-race routine:

got there and set up everything, and then just died inside as the wind picked up (by the time the race started it was a sustained 35mph with gusts even higher).
Event warmup:

easy 10 min run with 5x100m strides, approx 200 swim waiting for the start.
Swim
  • 26m 21s
  • 1700 meters
  • 01m 33s / 100 meters
Comments:

swim was as expected, solid but slow, VERY down on swim training this year, so its where i expected it to be and didn't try to push it too much knowing i had a long way to go yet.

Swim time also included approx 400m run to transition.
What would you do differently?:

getting the swimming up in the coming months.
Transition 1
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

long transition area.

Bike
  • 1h 51m
  • 42 miles
  • 22.70 mile/hr
Comments:

this was by far the hardest race ride i have ever done, the wind was simply insane. by the last 3rd of the ride i was swearing out loud at the wind, my bike, and anything else that came to mind. I hated my bike over the last 10 miles.

slowly started catching people over the last half, it seemed like this was more a matter of who could slow down the least in the wind.

What would you do differently?:

again like with the swim, have been off my bike a lot this year so i knew i would need to be careful with pacing in order to run well later, and the wind only made this harder, but i;m happy with it considering everything.

Mileage needs to come up now, but it was a solid ride.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
What would you do differently?:

Run
  • 59m 35s
  • 8.8 miles
  • 06m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

this was by far my best tri run outside of sprint races. a HUGE long course PR (best run in a half or similar race was 7:25 pace before this), started slower and just picked it up through the race.

What would you do differently?:

nothing.

Nice job!  Wish I could say the same for myself.  That wind really sucked.  And yes, the run was long - Garmin says 9.23 - I hit the button as I was crossing the mat at the start and end, so that's fairly accurate.
