Overall Rank = 123/319

Age Group Rank = 6/19
Pre-race routine:

Race is 4 miles away from home so slept to a semi decent hour, oatmeal, coffee and left by 7. Got to transition by 7:10. Lotsa familiar faces - my good friend surprisingly raced after slicing open her hand Fri. night. Dr. told her no but she was itching to race after having a baby last year. I was itching for her to place top 3 OA since we're in same AG. Perhaps some hardware for moi again this year?
Event warmup:

Stretched. Mike raced w/ me so it was nice having him around...I really wanted to beat him - deal was if I did, I could get a kitten.
Swim
  • 09m 58s
  • 580 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Sighted very well - every 5th stroke. Right on the bouy lines. Had to slow down and re-route so as not to swim over a few people. Mike and I finished exactly the same time.
What would you do differently?:

Go out a little harder.
Transition 1
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

My suit was stuck big time - but not as bad as Mike's.. finally wiggled out of mine, tried to help him but his was stuck good. He almost DNF'ed but a bunch of folks finally got it undone.
What would you do differently?:

Not wear a wetsuit? I applied bodyglide but it didn't help at all. So frustrating!
Bike
  • 32m 15s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.60 mile/hr
Comments:

Did well on the bike. We rode it a few times so I was comfortable. Passed boatloads of people especially on the 2 big climbs. I did brake a bit on the last big decent b/c it was wet and a bit slippery. Topped out at 39 mph. ROads not closed to traffic - most folks stayed right but some were waaay left and I had to cross the yellow line to pass. A few pretty aggressive riders from a NY tri club out there.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, Im pretty happpy all things considered.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

I thought I was quicker.
What would you do differently?:

Get yanks so I don't have to lace up sneaks.
Run
  • 28m 42s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt good coming off the bike, took a while for my HR to settle down w/ the slight uphill grade. Mike caught me about .5 mile into it, said he'd pace me but I told him to go ahead. Once again, it felt faster than 9:15's. Always feels faster....
What would you do differently?:

Be fast rather than feel fast! I always go by RPE and I pushed hard.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a bit, ate tons of crap. oreos, m and m's, trail mix, bagels, etc....

Event comments:

Last year I came in 1 in my AG. My goal for this year was to be faster on the run and hopefully the bike. I accomplished those goals - by a few seconds. Im much happier with that than I would have been had I gotten hardware but raced slower. My transitions in this race were atrocious and that's something I"ll definitely work on. Free time is always good. No kitten for me this race. Maybe next time.

Great job and smokin' bike time!!  You had some fast fillies to contend with out there, from what I saw in the results.  x2 on the yankz...LOVE mine.

What was so hard about getting the wetsuit off?  The ankles?  I just step on my suit and work it down my body....I did have to sit down though to get it off my left ankle.

The thing is just as tough to get off as it is to get on. I gotta lube up my legs too I guess.  Definitely would have been faster w/ no wetsuit at all.
