I may do the Sprint.  This is my first year involved, so I am currently trying to figure out what races I want to do.  I am also considering a 25mile bike race the following weekend, so I may or may not do the Esprit.  Does it usually sell out?

I think I will be there but not sure yet. I will see but I will do only a sprint. My swimming is not good enought to do more in the moment but I expect to do Iron distance in 2 years. So next year I will do Olympic and may be half Iron. In the moment I did Mont-Tremblant triathlon sprint and I will do Memphré one too. A lot of chance I will do Esprit too.

I'll be there doing the Olympic distance...I hope. I just injured my shoulder playing soccer and it's put me behind on my trainning. This will be my first tri. I'm accually a little worried I won't finish. For those of you who have competed in this tri, what  are your thoughts?

Espri is probably the fastest course you will find.

The swim is often with wetsuits. The starts are organized by waves, so you get a 'reasonable' number of people starting at the same time. People have a tendency to swim relatively straight due to the shape of the bassin

The bike is on the race track. It's as fast as it can get, no hills except that one small bump. Last year they ran the race in reverse order that they run the GP and how most people train. Last year the sprint was short.

The biking may be a bit boring going round and round, but it's fast.

The run is flat.

I don't remember how well well supported it was (Gatorade, water...)

It's a very well organized events, definitely a place to do a PB. But since this is your first a PB is almost a guarantee

Don't forget  the rope at the bottom that you can follow all the way, it makes swimming in there as easy as in the pool

I'll be there doing the Sprint. I'm a little nervous about it being so big.....there are so many participants. Most of my previous races have been fairly small (~50 people), so this'll be a big change. I'm hoping there will be a lot more weekend warriors like me.....I'm tired of coming in last behind a group of super intense athletes.

I would say the atmosphere is pretty laid back.

They start in waves, so go to sportstats and look at last year's. You will get an idea of how many people started in each wave and what their time was. I suspect it will be similar this year.

Once you get on the bike you have a lot of people. The half IM are mixed with the Oly and are mixed with the sprints. Lots of people but very pleasant.

Smile

Alors, rendez-vous, le 11 septembre.

Fellow weekend warrior right here! My first tri so my  goal is simply to finish, so I expect I will be last...sigh

Usually I am super competitive, but I see this as just having fun and a good motivation to stay fit. I too am a little worried on the size of the crowd, especially on the bike track. What are the convention of bike racing (ie: pass on the right or left?, Faster cyclers on the right or left? hand signs and gestures ect....)?

Don't let the size of the event initimidate you. It is very well run.

It's a large track. They ride it in the opposite direction of the F1 cars if you have ever seen the race. It's the opposite direction than most people train on during the week. Pass on the left.

The swim waves keep the swim chaos to a minimum.

It's a fast/fun event. You will enjoy it.

Most people respect the stay right and  pass left.   But you will find some poeple ride on the left  and in the middle.  ( Try not to be that guy but you might have to to pass somebody

Try to respect the 3m distance when you approch somebody from behind then  check behind and to the left first before passing somebody on the left.   The track is wide and there is plenty of room.

It's a lot of fun.

I am all signed up for the 1/2 or Demi esprit (sp?).

I am reall pumed for this as Monteral ( Ponte Claire ) is my home town, haven't been back for many years.

I noticed that the run times are very fast, is the course short?

Are we allowed to bring granola bars to eat during the tri? More specifically this one?

I think you can bring and eat anything you want as long as you don't leave any wrappers or garbage on the course.

Why do you ask ?  Were your granola bars confiscated at another event ?

No, this is my first tri, So I simply didn't know. I like to have a granola half way though my bike ride to keep me going through my run.
Thanks for the response
