Pre-race routine:

Took a leak and drank some water. Stretched a bit, too.
Event warmup:

Ran for a few minutes to my time group. Not much room when there are 54,999 other competitors!

Comments:

This is billed more as an "event" for the city of Atlanta rather than a race. As such, there were a bunch of folks who were in front of me at the start who didn't seem to be doing much running. After about a mile of me dodging as many folks as I could, the mass of humanity finally opened up and I was able to maintain a good pace without tripping over folks who didn't want to run.

I didn't drink anything during the race. I was very well hydrated and didn't think that I needed any additional fluids. The fact that I was trying to set a PB had something to do with it, but I just didn't feel as though I needed any water.
What would you do differently?:

Leave it all on the course. Other than just going faster, I didn't quite feel like I was working as hard as I could have been.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk through the water and T-shirt chutes at Piedmont Park. Stretch a bit, drank lots of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

54,999 of my closest friends. There were lots of folks even in my timegroup (which was fairly close to the front) who just weren't into running today. If I hadn't had to dodge so many of them at the start, I may have been able to break 55:00, but I'm not complaining. There are plenty of 10Ks around the city for that.

Event comments:

It was a good time. Lots of crowd support, lots of volunteers, just all around a good time. This is the first time I've done this race, and I look forward to (hopefully) doing it again. Not to mention that I ran less than 9:30 miles and set a personal best!
