I have a half ironman on 6/27 in Ontario and this timing is too tight, but I can alsways take it easy!  Or... just go and hceer you on!!

OK - cheering it is!

I really wanted to do this race, so I could do the whole series, but somehow I figured that racing on Sunday at Big Fish, racing on Wednesday at Triceratops, and then racing again on Sunday at Welland seemed a bit much.  But I will probably be there to volunteer or cheer!

Hey Lauren!  I just had my first triathlon a couple weeks ago and it was fun!  Of course I haven't done the Triceratops Tri, but I think you made a good choice making it your first triathlon- it's put on by Running Fit so of course it's gotta be good.   If you have any specific questions I'm sure there are people here more than willing to answer!

lauren,

ride the course and run the course.  there are a couple of little hills on the bike and it's good to know where they are.  try to get there early on race day so you can park in the lot close to the transition because the little parking lot fills up quickly and the parking overflows to the field across the road.  2 hours before race time is good.  it's nice to have all of your gear close by.  read some race reports.  practice transition.  if i think of more i'll let you know.

That was my first ever last year. I did all three in that series and my first HIM last week. You picked a good place to start. Don't be nervous, keep your head down and focus. Smile for the cameras. You only get to do your first once.

Thanks so much everyone for all the advice and encouragement! I'm very excited to try this out...I have a feeling it is going to be a new love of mine Laughing  I am most nervous about the swimming part. I dont get to practice swimming in open water very much before that race, and I know that its going t be very different than  swimming pool.

I'm in for the series this year, though somehow I doubt it's going to be as friendly for my slooowwww times as Hawk Island was. Still, I have a buddy volunteering at the finish line - maybe I can get him to pocket a medal in case they run out?? Laughing

Oops. Shoot. Kev's still logged in - this is Heather (hnewman), his wife.

Were this an actual Kevin post, blah blah superfast times blah blah offhand supertriman comments blah blah...

Actually, keep your head up, you'll go faster, and look confident.  Cool

Alright!  Starting to get excited now.  I have never done an afternoon race (well down in Florida, you would be burnt to a crisp) so it should be a very interesting dynamic.   I can't wait to meet you northern BT'ers, at least so they can tell me some training routes!

A few questions T Rex specific:
I have not done a T Rex yet but can someone tell me if they guys can run shirtless? This will make my son happy.
I also see that many people on the bike are not wearing their race numbers, is it only madatory for the run?
Also, what is the swim course; is it straight out and back or some type of rectangle ( I always feel like I am accomplishing more with each bouy I pass ?  I also see by the old photos you start in the water.  Where do you pass the timing device?

Thanks for the info.

I can help with a couple ?'s...

Guys can go shirtless, as this is USAT event (rules make no stipulations for shirts)

The Race number for the bike is typically attached to the bike and your helmet.  There is no need to wear your running number on the bike.

As for the swim course, can't help you, the link on the race website doesnt work, so i guess we will findout when we get there!

As for this, if you mean what I think you mean: since it will be a wave start, your time will automatically start once your wave is set to go off.  So initially (before the swim) you won't be passing any timing device.

I'm down... although I don't know where to suggest either.  I plan on getting there early.  And if you see someone limping around, that's probably me.  I busted my foot a few weeks ago, and walking (and running!) on my toes doesn't hurt, so that's what I've been (and will be!) doing!  So, if anyone happens to see me, feel free to holler!
