I just bought my first tri suit and I can get into it but its pretty tight on me. I'm not a small guy but I'm not a fatty either (6'3 215) and its an XL. So how tight are these things supposed to be?

Pretty tight.  Any "looseness" will create drag in the water and will also make it uncomfortable if you are having to adjust on the bike and run.

Skin tight. Just slightly compression is a good thing.

I purchased my first suit via the internet and used the sizing chart on the manufacturer's website. When I received it, I managed to get it on and it was very tight. I knew they were supposed to be a snug fit, so I just wore it around the house one evening to see if I'd get used to it.

After about an hour I couldnt' take it any longer and had to remove it.  I was concerned that if I couldn't wear it around the house for that long, then the suit would be too uncomfortable and become a distraction during the races.

I had the same thoughts, "maybe if I just lose a few pounds," but after giving it more consideration I realized that no matter how much weight I lost, I wasn't going to remove two inches of height from my crotch to my shoulders. Plus my wife pointed out that she could easily tell whether or not I was Jewish.

So, I wound up exchanging it for the next size up. According to the sizing chart this thing should just hang on me. However, in real life it is nice and snug yet comfortable enough for me to wear for long periods of time.

I've recently started to train in a tri race suit myself (a 2XU endurance) and as the others mentioned above it does indeed fit like a second skin.  However having said that, as Tundra mentioned it still needs to feel comfortable.  My suit is skin tight but still extremely comfortable.  As Tundra mentioned the best thing to do is to just wear it about the house and see how you feel in it.

Now regarding the fact of people being able to tell if your Jewish or not, a lot of that can come down to careless "packaging".  I personally find that the said equipment needs to be "packaged" carefully in a particular orientation to prevent the inverse cameltoe effect.

Wow, hard to ask a question after viewing that.  But regarding "toes", I'm curious what others have found among different brands and their seam construction.  I live in a place where tri gear isn't readily available, so I'm forced to order much gear off the internet.  As you'd expect, with items like tri suits, where fit is everything, it doesn't always work well.  I recently ordered a TYR tri suit which fits otherwise perfectly, save that damn center seam in the crotch.  Are all suits built this way?  Or have you found some brands structure their seems differently, allowing for a little less riding up?

(What a great shame my first posting in this forum has be about this of all things...)
