75F / 24C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 16m 15s
Overall Rank = 71/605
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 7/25
Pre-race routine:

Ate breakfast, drank about 6 pots of coffee, headed to the race site, helped out with the bike mechanic's area since I work for the shop, and set up transition.
Event warmup:

Biked a little, ran a little, swam "some."
Swim
  • 09m 52s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 30s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great swim. Passed a lot of the people from my age group, and some from the wave ahead of me.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Couldn't find the zipper for my wetsuit at first, at least it's a long run to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Find the rip cord for my wetsuit faster
Bike
  • 40m 18s
  • 15 miles
  • 22.33 mile/hr
Comments:

I tend to get music stuck in my head while I'm biking. This time it was "Bring the Pain" by Redman/Chemical Brothers. It was fitting. Today was all about utilizing my ability to suffer, I succeeded. I couldn't have asked for a better ride.
What would you do differently?:

Not much at all
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

It was T2...pretty fast considering I was racked as far as possible from Run Out.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23m 23s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

It was good, after the swamp section where I had to run choppy to keep my footing. I still should have been running more.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the run going into the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Same old walk around, chiropractic adjustment, talk to people, etc...

Event comments:

I love QC Tri. Even better that it was a Worlds Qualifier this year, and I was fast enough to qualify. Even if it wasn't all that hard to qualify to begin with. I was also very happy with my performance during the race. It really felt like the first time I was ever to put a good, complete race together. It was great to race with my friends/team, see my friends from out of town, and meet a lot of great people in to qualify for the race. I'm still trying to figure out a way to make it to worlds.

Do some people claim you're really tough, while other people find you to be not particularly challenging?

No particular funny stories, except for hearing the guy behind me fall in the mud...but he passed me later, so that's not a good one.

The really cool part of the race was the group of people who traveled in to qualify for worlds.  There were some really cool people with that group, and I got to meet the majority of them when they came to the shop to have their bikes assembled/tuned up.

Now I'm just trying to estimate what it will take to actually get to the race in Budapest.

Well done race Dan.  You really have come a long way in the last 2 years.  You are getting into the "smoking fast" category.
