Seafair/Virginia Mason Team Medicine

Overcast
Total Time = 2h 00m 23s
Overall Rank = 18/19
Age Group = 1-19
Age Group Rank = 374/617
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:30 and had some pancakes minus syrup for breakfast. Once we got to the location at 6:15, I chilled around the vendors...got a free RoadRunnerSports hat! Also had some Jamba Juice smoothie...because it was free...halfway through it I decided I shouldn't have had that. Once I got running it wasn't too bad.
Event warmup:

Some really simple stretches (for all intents and purposes...nothing)
Run
  • 2h 00m 23s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I had done 9-10 mile training runs before and ironically, as soon as I went over that I started to just feel horrible. Well, not horrible, but everything felt worse and the motivation kind of left me. Also at mile 8 they were handing out Clifshots....never had them before but they seemed like a good idea. Alas, the mango flavor I had was disgusting, fortunately the water station a few feet away washed it down. Suffice to say, race what you train. Additionally, I took some AminoVital during the run, which I don't think was detrimental in anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Probably would've trained just a lil' bit more. Gone for a few longer training runs?
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched!! So tight and sore.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Simply put: not a runner.

I'm a swimmer first, and so to do runner is quite foreign to me, but I think that if I had trained longer and more frequently I would've done better.

Event comments:

The course was well-laid out, lots of volunteers along the way. To me, it seemed like there were more water stations than I would've expected (but then again, I would do my 10 mile training run without any water in tow ;))

Post-race, there were lots of food to snack on which was great! Although I've been to better postrace activities...but overall it was a blast :)

Course: It was a well laid-out course all over Bellevue. The entire course was pretty rolling, no really truely flat sections. However, there was only one significant hill around the 7 mile marker, so it wasn't horrible.

Nice race! 9 min miles would be a miracle for me. I am so not a runner! See you next weekend!

I think you did great! Anything under 10 minute miles is really good I think.

I hate clifshots, they taste really gross to me, glad you didn't let it ruin the last of your event.

thank you all

and yea, I think the water stations might be more for the marathoners, but still seemed like a lot. Perhaps swimming has engrained in me a habit of not-drinking while working out

heh, thanks for the pace compliments

and yea, the clifshots....don't know how people can down those..I mentioned how disgusting they were to my friend and he's like: 'dude, I wanna try them!' -- clearly misdirected
