I think that my body would benefit from a week off.

My mind has a hard time dealing with taking 1 day in a row off.

Anyone else in this boat?

For sure! I would have a very difficult time taking a week off. In fact I ran and did weight training on our vacation at the beach this year. The fitness center was just too nice not to take advantage of and running is great in Florida (translate no hills!).

Personally, I'm a big believer in the notion that not all exercise has to be "training."  I rarely take more than one day completely off from exercise (meaning I'll emphasize easy spins of under an hour on the bike, moderate swims, light running...or even some long walks), but I'll definitely take a break from my normal tri-specific training routine if I'm getting fried.  I still try to stick with an hour (average) of physical activity during "rest" weeks...I've found that my overtraining aches and injuries do heal up during that time when I'm not taxing them.

x2 Every few weeks, a period of shorter workouts and no two-a-days seems to be refreshing.

I'm taking a forced 2 weeks off because of a cut on my foot. At 10 days now I've been cleared for swimming. My mind has been freaking out, but the body is just fine. Eating clean, added in some more upper body lifting and I think I actually look a bit better, i.e. muscular. The best thing is that I'm really excited to go running again, something that wasn't always true before the injury.

Yeah, I could use some rest time as well but I hate taking it. I think a week would be excessive. Maybe a day or two and, like someone else said, no 2-a-days for the week.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) I will be without my bike and have no pool access for the nxt week and a half so I will be decreasing my training time secondary to that, if for no other reason.
