Pre-race routine:

coffee and half a roll from 7-11 on the way down.
Event warmup:

light stretching
Swim
  • 09m 27s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 09s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt strong on the swim - actually stayed on the bouy line and sprinted 2 the first bouy and felt good. Breaststroked a tad when I got swam over and again at the turn buoy.
Transition 1
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

nada. fumbled w/ race belt a wee bit.
Bike
  • 30m 17s
  • 11 miles
  • 21.79 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike - leap frogged w. another girl for most of the way back. Saw a girl w/out a helmet who didn't even get DQ'ed! How does that happen?????
What would you do differently?:

Push harder on the downhill sections
Transition 2
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

Decided to keep shoes on bike and go in barefoot. Had been practicing so felt comfortable but didn't take into consideration the surface was all broken up shells. Oh well. Also did an entire loop around the transition area to get to bike rack spot when I probably could have scooted right into my spot.
What would you do differently?:

straighter line back to bike spot.
Run
  • 29m 45s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 09m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran strong for me. Passed one girl early on, kept pace w/ some guy for last 1/2 mile and was running as fast as I could. At the 3 mile mark I got passed by a parade of 5 girls and had nothing in the tank to get them. Bad thing was, nobody was body marked so I had no idea if they were in my ag. Turns out nobody was. Came scarily close to tossing my breakfast all over the poor volunteer who took my chip off.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around in the rain w/ Mike.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. Been busy and preoccupied by a pituatary tumor that's being surgically removed tomorrow. RPE was pretty good for a sprint but the speed that should accompany it wasn't there. I wasn't too surprised.
