Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 6/17
Pre-race routine:

I didn't get to sleep until about midnight so 4 am came real early. Got up ate a piece of toast, packed the car up, and made the 1 hour drive to Santa Fe. Went to set up my transition and the place was already packed so I had to make my way toward the back.
Event warmup:

a little running
Swim
  • 09m 28s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Since this was a reverse tri I hit the pool and was exhausted. I started out well and was passed several people but then just hit a wall. I actually had to throw in some breast stroke for about 25m but finished fairly strong. The swim time includes transition so it's not as bad as it looks.
What would you do differently?:

train more
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

transitions were not timed so not sure how long it took. It seemed to go well for me. Easy transition from run to bike.
Bike
  • 44m 41s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.11 mile/hr
Comments:

I wasn't as ready for this as I thought. I have put in a lot of miles on the bike recently but need more.
What would you do differently?:

Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

bike to swim was not a good transition. I was tired and on the verge of cramping after going all out on the bike. When I was ready to head to the pool I had no idea which end of the transition I was supposed to use and started heading the wrong way. Nobody said a word but I noticed no one else was headed that way so I turned around and went the other way. Long run on pavement and sidewalk in barefoot...no fun.
What would you do differently?:

understand the flow of transition and have some flip flops or something to wear on the long run to the pool
Run
  • 25m 4s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't push the first mile since I was unfamiliar with the course. I held back a little on the beginning downhill and was glad when I realized the last 2 miles were all uphill.
What would you do differently?:

push the first mile a little harder
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed some watermelon and water then did a little stretching and mingling

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training

Good showing, Tim!

I didn't enjoy the hike to the pool from transition, either. My spot was east of that truck with the music, so I had a long walk/hobble as well. Then the hill, ugh.

Wish I could have met up with you to say hello. But I'm sure our paths will cross someday.
