I was thinking about it this morning while listening to my colleagues at work talk about just how much they know about cycling and health...this sport has taught me a lot already...

I've only been doing it for a couple months, but I can already see a huge difference in the way i think about things...

A: i know i cant have much sugar anymore..I get really lethargic and feel sick.
B: McDonalds fries give me diahrrea. I always thought it was stress but it turns out its the fries.
C: I'm a lot more capable of physical things than i ever gave myself credit for.
D: Freedom from being unhealthy is way cooler than the freedom to sit around watching TV.

I can run.

A marathon is not just for the gods.

Yogurt does not entirely suck.

I can maintain my bike all by myself! Mostly.

I missed having an excuse to play exercise. Play.

A marathon is not just for the gods.

I respectfully disagree. The difference is that now you can become said god.

Speed workouts work. I don't know how, but they do.

Oh great, Bear. Like Buttercup, Cupcake, Goddess and Czarina are not enough! If you insist...

We shall see, come February 28, 2006.

I can swim.  AND, I can swim in a lake without much freaking out...

I can bike.  Very well.

I can live without fast food, but thanks for offering.

I am much less stressed out, if I can work out.

Pain is temporary.  But the next time you do that hard workout, it doesn't hurt so much.

My tri friends are some of the best people in the world, and I'm thankful to have met them.

I get a warm, fuzzy feeling everytime I pass someone when biking or running...because then I'm getting faster.

Sometimes, little kids wave back if you wave while running past them.

There's a lot of wild animals near the lake that I train at.

  1. That I can push my body beyond what I thought.
  2. Cross Training rocks.  As a long time runner, I never believed in it.  Since I started Tri-ing, I've become a faster runner on less miles.
  3. You get used to smelling like chlorine.
  4. It's cool when the kids ask to feel your muscles.

OOooh...good thread. I think tri training teaches me something new just about every day.

  • A healthy body is a gift that is not to be squandered. It is to be celebrated every single day.
  • I can overcome my own self-doubt. All of those things I "can't" do are self-imposed limitations that can be overcome if I try.
  • Using exercise to combat depression really, really works.
  • Positive thoughts can become a habit
  • Food is fuel.
  • I can push myself much, much harder than I thought possible, and harder than is safe. I am learning how to back off, and that backing off is OK
  • My SO and I can spend every waking moment discussing our latest exercise obsession, and not get bored with each other.
  • No key workout is as important as the most minor thing involving my family
  • I can surf BT all day and still get my work done

-You can convince yourself that it hurts...and that will make it hurt more...and your performance will suffer as a result of negative thoughts.  Keep a positive attitude and it can carry you through an entire race

-getting up to train at the ass-crack of dawn isn't all that bad

-don't ride far from home without a spare tube and pump...or at least a cell phone

    -speed work is GOOD pain

-diet soda isn't that bad once you get used to it
