Really?  Is the media seriously wasting time on this??  Wedding of the century?

Why in the F are celebrities being invited to this?  Talk about attention hounds.  It's ridiculous and CNN won't shut up about it this morning.

Jealousy doesn't suit you. Face it: You weren't invited either.

I think the non-stop coverage of Lindsey Lohan was worse. And it's just going to come back when she gets out of jail.

Change the channel or turn the page.  If you don't care about someone's wedding, don't read or watch about it.  I don't care if Brad and Angelina are on the rocks, so I don't particularly follow that news either.

Could be worse: Revenge of Octomom anyone?

Of course I can change the stream or turn it off.  But I like to stream a news channel at work to keep on top of things.  It is just tiresome to hear about it.

Wasn't invited because I wouldn't be caught dead in a room with either of the political Clinton's. Yell

So that's what is bothering you? You don't want to give airtime / freedom of speech to anyone you disagree with? Got it...

Aparently I don't watch enough news because although I knew she was getting married this summer, I haven't heard much more than that.  I would imagine celebrities are invited because her parents are friends with celebrities?  Same reason why there were teachers at my first wedding?
I would rather hear about Chelsea's wedding than Lindsey any day as well.

The subject has zero to do with freedom of speech in reference to political opinions and you know it.  It has to do with media obsession with an important person's daughter.  The parents of the bride have gone to great lengths to keep it from being a circus yet that is exactly what it is .........

No, I rabidly object to Ann Coultor, Fox news and right wing positions. Can't disagree more. But I'm thrilled they have the venue to espouse their opinions. In my opinion: it's rampant and everywhere. But again, I don't object 1 iota for the right to express them by any legall means.

Suggest you change the channel if you don't like what you're hearing and not try to squelch coverage of a 2 term President's and the Secretary of State's affairs. Bush's daughter had similar pomp and circumstance when she got married and I'm sure if I searched the archives, doubt you objected then.

My archives only go back to the beginning of this year when I joined so you will find nothing.  And I avoid political discussions because the entire subject is a mess, regardless of which side someone falls on.  (Especially when I do not even vote Republican anymore even though that is what my card says.  There was no "Independent" choice when I registered to vote).

The reason for me to post the topic was to shake my head at the coverage something ridiculously mundane as a marriage receives just because it is a political figures daughter.

I refer to this as the Clinton Stimulus Package...at $3 million (latest estimate), at least it is flowing into the economy for someone.

Not a fan of the Clinton's, but if the media makes it a circus that is not their fault.

It's the cult of personality and it's the reason people like Paris Hilton & Snooki can become household names for being nothing other than untalented sluts. (For the record I'm not calling Chelsea any such thing, just giving examples of the problem.)

You want to make a difference?  Flip to another stream when that news comes on.  I guarantee you if enough people do it, they'll stop reporting on it because they watch listener/viewer trends like a hawk.

Why are celebrities invited to it?  Because it's a famous family and they hang out with celebrities regularly.  It's like you asking why your dinner party is full of triathletes; that's the circle they run in.

...and you were correct.  This is especially true considering all of the more important things going on that affect the country.  Chelsea Clinton and the Bush daughters are as important as Ryan Leaf.

I agree 100%.  In fact, a friend of mine was complaining about Obama skipping the Boy Scout jamboree this week in favor of an appearance on The View.  I have to say that it was probably a wise move considering how celebrity status earns votes.

What cracks me up is everyone invited or involved in planning the wedding had to sign a confidentiality agreement.  If they just made it public no one would care and it would not be such a big deal.

One thing I've rediscovered and really enjoyed about being overseas again is that the major news channels and papers actually report what I'd call "news."

So today, I had absolutely *no clue* that Chelsea Clinton's marriage was turning into a media circus, but I do know that a United Nations resolution was passed declaring that access to clean water and sanitation is a human right.

The local news headline was that in Jakarta, Islamic militants clashed with a group they consider to be a heretic Islamic sect, and 600 law enforcement officers had to be mobilized to restore order.

I think those events, and their implications and surrounding issues, are pretty important ... especially as compared to oh-look-the-daughter-of-someone-famous-is-getting-hitched.

I disagree. There are good reasons celebrities don't just make everything they do "public" - most of it has to do with the desire for privacy and security concerns.
