Sunny
Total Time = 1h 30m 15s
Overall Rank = 73/118
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 5/7
Pre-race routine:

Went to the venue the night before and swam. Had dinner at Green Mill the night before. No gluten free, no rice available. Had a black and bleu burger with a fried egg and baked potato.

Morning of race had a danish,a banana and coffee. Got to race site early, set up transition and used the bathroom (lots).
Event warmup:

Had plenty of time to warm-up for swim before long course went off and during the 20-minute wait.
Swim
  • 18m 37s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Totally prepared for this. Lots of OWS this summer and then every day at Cass Lake. Swam at the venue the night before and had time to warm up prior to the race. Left the starting line totally relaxed with good breathing, hip rotation and stroke. Started passing folks right away and had some folks drafting me toward the end of the race. Emily caught up to me around the bend, but I hammered the last 200y and came out 3 minutes ahead of her. Best. Swim. Ever.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, for a change.
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

Forgot to unzip my heels. Duh!
What would you do differently?:

Unzip my heels, otherwise good transition.
Bike
  • 39m 20s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.31 mile/hr
Comments:

3 mph faster than dry run two days earlier. Very little wind and I was in pain the whole time, so I knew I was going as hard as possible.
What would you do differently?:

Still more bike training.
Transition 2
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Slowed down too fast prior to dismount. Had a hard time getting my socks on for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Stretch socks prior to race and find easier socks to put on.
Run
  • 27m 59s
  • 3.04 miles
  • 09m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

First five minutes a little stiff, but kept a good pace. Negative split all three miles. Hammered the last mile.

Splits:

1st mile = 9:47
2nd mile = 9:23
3rd mile = 8:41
Finiah = 7:04
What would you do differently?:

Need to start out faster. I have more run endurance and cardio fitness than I give myself credit for.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, banana, cheese and salami.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Should have had better mental preparation. I was too freaked out about the swim the week prior to concentrate on what would happen next.

Event comments:

Good race, well organized and the music was good. Great venue.

Impressive race...you executed well....as shown by your huge negative split on the run.

Look at the bike split on the Kuota!
