Pipsyboy, Heck the beer isn't the problem as long as you run an extra 40 miles a week. If you count the carbs into your diet for those days then they will not add to your weight. On the other hand you could always go long on a run or bike before the big beer nights.

My downfall is ....Shhhhh...cookies and my wife knows it so she ALWAYS has them around....Dang that woman.

To clarify, these beers are 375ml and light. (3%, sometimes 3.5)

Just in case anyone thought I was a raging alco.

July 30: 223.0
August 4: 219.2

The long bike ride last night probably helped. I will be taking it easy the rest of this week in anticipation of the tri on Saturday.

Are you sure that 3% qualifies as beer? I thought it was yellow water.

My downfall = fast food as well. It's just so easy and tastey! I can't help it...I eat out for every lunch...waste of money and fat packer. I just can't seem to help myself.

My new vice is also beer...I never really drank beer but there's a new one in Canada (Molson Candian 67) which is only 67 calories per bottle (3% as well) and since it's "only 67 calories" it makes me feel less guilty about drinking it...so I end up haivng the "sure, I can have another, it's only 67 calories" mentality.

This month is going to be tough if I want to lose 3-4 pounds!

August 4: 166

Goal for end of month: 162

Finally back home, so I'm able to get an accurate weight on my home scale. I had guessed I was between 168-166, so I'm happy I'm at the lower end of it. My goal for July had been 165, so I guess I came pretty close.

My biggest issue is eating at social events.  I eat rather well when I'm on my own but if I see a plate of food out at a gathering I'll eat two to three times the calories I need for that day.  That and buffet lunches at work.  A group of us go out to lunch every Friday and two three times a month that means either a pizza buffet or Indian buffet.

July 28 154.8
Aug 04 154.4

My downfall is ice cream. I never want to deprive myself of the wonderful Mint Choco Chip ice cream. I am just having it more than once a week which I really need to cease. If I can get that back under control and continue eating at home, I should be good to go.

Now if I can get my back under control. It hurts like hell and I haven't been able to work out at all this week as a result.

Oh and if anyone saw it My First Tri article got published. I've since done my first real Sprint Tri and dropped another 10 pounds, but it's still cool they published it. Yeah me!

I have two weaknesses.  Food and lack of self control. Well I guess I have a few more but we're talking weight loss weaknesses. Seriously, a minor weakness is chocolate but my big one is ice cream. I'm wondering though if the ice cream isn't so much a weakness but a tool I should be using in my weight loss efforts. I've been horrible the last little while, ice cream almost every day, and I just barely missed my July goal by a couple of days. My goal was 195 and I weighed in last night at 194, that's down from 198.4 on 7/28. Hopefully it will stay off. After weighing in last night I modified my goal for the month to 190. A pound a week. That's all I ask.
7/28 - 198.4
8/3   - 194.0
8/11 -
8/18 -
8/25 -
8/31 -
Goal for Aug - 190

My only vice is that I can't resist temptation.  Ha ha ha.  Now that I try to eat Paleo, I don't have issues with ice cream (although I certainly did in my pre-Paleo days).  My only real vices are sweet potato fries and all-fruit smoothies.  Both are sort of Paleo so I can justify them, but it is tough to justify all the calories they contain.  My new rule re smoothies is that I can only have one on a day when I have biked in excess of forty miles.  Last week I had a smoothie (433 calories and 96 grams of carbohydrates) every day and then I wondered why I didn't lose any weight.  I don't really have access to sweet potato fries that often (we don't have them at home) so it isn't toooooooo bad.

Today's weight was 136.6.  Still in pursuit of the elusive 130 or, even better, 129.9.

Sailing - hope your ear is doing good.

Congrats everyone on a new month and new opportunities.

Hey I am back in again. I slipped away last month.

Creeped back up to about 238 lbs I think mid month. Got back to eating clean, My knee is doing better and I have been back running 4-5km runs and 50km bike rides this last week.

Today Aug 4th  232.5 lbs

My goal for this month is to be in the 220's I have not seen 220's Since I was 18 years old.

36 and well on my way to the 220's (still only 5'6" tall, I can't seem to have any luck with changing that... hahaha)

Goal 225 or under Would Be FANTASTIC... but will be happy if I am in the 220's

Also have my second Try a Tri this month on the 28th. My wife is down 16 lbs now and This totals over 35 lbs for me now.

My friend finished her Half Iron in Benton Harbor this last weekend doing it in 5hr 49 min.. WOOOT so she is commited to my training this month now.

Ha Ha, good one.

I find it keeps me just the right side of crazy.

But I'm not saying which side of crazy I consider to be the right side.

I was wondering if there is room for me?  As of Aug 3rd I weigh 234 lbs. My goal for this month is to see 225 lbs. Have not seen that since freshman year in college.   Had a bad last weekend in July (brother-in-law got married).  Lots of beer and food and no sleep.

My weakness, let me see.  I would have to say will power and lack of sleep.  For me these go hand and hand.  I work a swing shift and every 2 weeks I go from days to nights. Well I only get about 4 hrs sleep when I am on nights.  I get tired and eat for conveinence.  Not to mention I have a 7 and 3 yr old boys.  One of the positive is my wife is very supportive of me and cooks heathly food for me and the family.

Jon

Woo Hoo. Friday-eve.

Cheers everybody.

Looks like a mile and a half run there.

I look at most things that way pips. On Monday my cable and phones are paid for, by Tues or Wed utilities are paid for, 2 more days and I have gas money for the month, how many days I work for food I am not sure, but I know that if I wanted to live in a box I could just about quit working by Friday the first week.

Hi all, I know I haven't been around, but I haven't given up, just been crazy busy.  Finished the month of July still at 184.5 - it just didn't want to budge.  I finally hit 183 on Wednesday so it's finally heading down again.  My goal is 178 and I really need to work hard because July was the first month I didn't hit my goal and it was not a pleasant feeling.  My swimming is going good, finally building up a a little bit of stamina, running could be going better though and I have to say I am not enjoying the biking at all.

Sailing, hope you are feeling better.

Keep it up Sheilby, no time to stop now..

we could trade I have swam once in a month. Running I am just getting back into and I gave up on my tempo run last night so I have to go do it again tonight. so I am told.

The bike I just LOVE being on my bike. Funny I can push 3 hours on it and love it but I struggle to get through a 30 min tempo run. hmmm

Either way I know it will all come together for both of us. So keep it up.

Well Techdiver, if we could combine our talents we would be a force to be reckoned with.  I only have a 13 year old mountain bike that is not a great fit so that may have something to do with why I'm not loving the biking portion.
