Ode to peanut butter:

Peanut butter, your nutty ways
so punnishing, the weight I gain

smell so strong, taste so rich
an addiction... I long to itch

crunchy or smooth, your heart impure
I long to dip my cracker into you

with a forlorn aching in my chest
I close the lid, in the cubbard rest.

...must......resist............ can't..............take..........it..... peanut butter.... oh, for the love af all that is holy, why do you torment me soooooo..... PBJ................peanut butter and pickle sandwich... reeces peanut butter cups.............. NUTTER BUTTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh.... Oh! It's siren call splits my head like a plunging ice pick.

I think I'll make a hat that dangles a jar of penut butter out in front of me. That should help my run times!

Beer was easier to cut out than peanut butter.

Ok, as a "sub thread".....
Do you like creamy or crunchy?
Do you have a special brand?

For me it is CREAMY. JIF. 'nuff said.
My fiance brought home Skippy once 'cuz it was on sale.
I almost called off the wedding.....

Crunchy of course. And the kind I can grind myself at the healtfood store is the best.

I guess it just goes to show that we're all a little nuts. ( Okay, this is getting bad )

I studied abroad in Costa Rica for 4 months. Whenever I mentioned peanut butter to the locals, they reacted with horror like it was the most disgusting thing they'd ever tried. I guess you have to be raised on it. It's kinda like Vegemite, I suppose.

Anyway, I completely adore peanut butter. It is the only thing that gets rid of my hiccups!

I am a crunchy kina guy, except for the dreaded peanut butter and pickle sandwich, then it has to be creamy. It's a little refined, I know, but I have travelled the peanut butter highway and need to invent new ways to get the high I had in the beginning....

I hesitate to admit this, more even than admiting I'm 34 and the only TV program I watch is American Idol, but here it is:

I have been known to make a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich (creamy) with crushed fritos and a layer of honey draped on top of the Fritos. Talk about evil. If I was going to be executed tomorrow, that would be on the menu for my last meal along with a gallon of carmel crunch ice cream (the kind with the waffle cone crushed inside).

Yeah, I'm barely working, as I sit here and laugh out loud to myself about this PB thing.

I eat organic PB - Maranatha from Costco. I get 2 giant jars for about $6. Of course you have to stir it and refrigerate it, but I think it tastes better!

Peanut butter is my friend
Gives me protein to no end
Helps rebuild me, on the mend
My PB I will NOT lend
It's MINE.

:-O OK, I'm no poet. And I know it. I'll show it.

There once was a girl from Berlin
Who ate pb on everything
She gained thirty pounds
Then scratched her crown
And padlocked the rest, so to slim!

a poor rhyming limerick!!

Oh, that's right... I'm working!

My folks live on the left coast in the Carmel Valley, so I understand where you are coming from, but maybe you can clarify something for me, Dana... what's with the garlic facination? Roadside garlic stores, garlic museums? garlic memorabilia? Wheneve I drive down from San Jose to Monterrey, I drive through these places and am always a little confused, kind of like I have slipped into a B movie... Did you know Gillroy was the garlic capital of the world? Where is the saffron capital of the world? I suppose the curry capital is in India somewhere, but what about peper? Why does garlic get a capital, but basil has to suffer without one?

Good question, Thomas. Basil is definitely getting a bum rap. I must say that the garlic fascination that you speak of is relegated to Gilroy and its environs.

But only about 60 miles away is the Artichoke capitol of the world (who knew??) in Castroville. Also I believe there is an Almond one to the north, plus the Casa de Fruta (Home of the Fruits, for non-spanish speakers!) Of course many will tell you that Berkeley is the home of the fruits (by which I mean crazy people... just to clarify)!!

Must be something in the water over here!!

I get the artichoke, I mean, it's a vegetable, after all. But almonds?! And what happens is two or more cities claim to be their respective capital's of the world? It's questions like these that keep me up at night.

I wonder if there is a peanut butter capital of the world... and if so, if expedia or travelosity has any vacation packages....

Jiff! Old Faithful! Grandady of them all!

As to Almond butter, I have never had it, but Dana can probably offer something. She lives near the Almond capital of the world, after all....

I'm a dud--never had Almond Butter before in my life. I trust Lara's judgment though. I'm sure it is fabulous!

I have a childhood standby, well two of them. Bread + Jif + (like it needed more sugar) marshmallow creme or nice white granulated sugar.

Yumm!

We called the marshmallow creme and PB sandwiches nutter fluffy or fluffy nutter sandwiches (I can't remember exactly!)

Ugh. Years and years of nothing but peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch as a child have darkened my heart toward peanut butter. And of course, we had the pure stuff, none of that candied peanut butter like Jif that would have tasted good.

Just thought I should throw a dissenting opinion out. Carry on with the PB love. :-)
