Total Time = 2h 48m 48s
Overall Rank = 306/2050
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 38/125
Pre-race routine:

Ultramet shake with OJ and bannana. Multi-vitamin, muscle nitro, Tylenol 8hour, and Endurolytes. Power bar shortly before start, due to late start (bad move!)
Event warmup:

Stretching
Swim
  • 29m 1s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Decent job on the swim, it was very crowded and I was constantly dodging people. The water was very warm and exited the water very hot.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Big transition area, good overall transition. Feet were really dirty and had a hard time getting into my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Wipe feet on towel and practice more on getting into shoes. Mount was fine though.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 1s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Needed to drink more, but had an upset stomach. Not really sure if it was because of the power bar, my weak IM cocktail or swallowing air on the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Need to experiment more with nutrition and practice swim/bike bricks with limited time in between
Transition 2
  • 02m 57s
Comments:

Got lost in transition and lost a lot of time. I normally go through T2 in less than one minute.
What would you do differently?:

Pay attention to where my bike is located.
Run
  • 1h 01m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Very hot and started off very, very slow due to a bad side stitch. Starting cramping with two miles to go and had to really watch it.
What would you do differently?:

I say this after every race, practice bike/run bricks. My legs are usually never the issue, I just can't control my breathing.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching and walking to the car

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat and stomach issues.

Event comments:

Great races, just too many racers for my liking. We didn't start until after 9am, so the heat was even more of an issue. Very hot and no wetsuit. The swim and bike were very crowed, but overall a good race. Terrible side-ache on the run, but finished strong with a little cramping. Really need to work on my run, way too slow.

Good job Derek! Way to battle through the heat!

I had the same too-many-people-for-my-liking feeling last year, so I didn't register this year. Maybe next year!
