I don't do it, my experience and summary is one page, my proficiencies, educations, and awards on the second.  I just don't have the room.

I think the best thing to do (and tell me if I'm wrong) is to create your resume as if it was a professional publication.  I have the company logo of each of my prior jobs as watermarks, and a graphic design that flows well.  Neither are flashy, but comparing it to other resumes it stands out.

Unless it's directly related to the job, no.

I want to know how well you can do the job...not what obsessive hobbies will actually be sucking up all your time and energy and mental focus.

Hobbies and interests, 99% of the time, do not belong on a resume.

Unless you have written permission from the companies to use their logo for your personal use, it is probably not a good idea. I work in corporate communications and we require reviews and approvals for all uses of our logo. Not saying we'd sue you for using the logo, but we'd definitely ask you to take it off your resume.

I had "USAT Member/Triathlete" (have since removed USAT Member since no longer so) on my "other interests/activities" section for my current job (IT for multiple hospitals). They asked me about it during my panel interview and it broke the ice. The phone interview that followed was from a marathoner. She expressed how she believed it shows determination/dedication. I'm sure each resume and job posting is different, I may have gotten lucky. But, if I were to lose this job, I would keep it on my resume ("Triathlete"). Should be a simple decision, either do it, or don't, and be able to explain why it's on your resume in the first place. Don't make it complicated.

i agree.  because quilting just doesnt do much for me!  haha.  i guess other than for my pure entertainment it is not really needed.  however, the batch of cfo resumes i just reviewed almost all had "extracurricular" listings.  it made them seem a lot more human if you ask me.

Ironically, quilting is one of my "indoor" hobbies!  After all, you have to do something when you can't s/b/r and are stuck in the house!

Maybe it makes them more human.  I know many interviews I had wanted someone who basically after the long day of computer programming at work is done wanted someone who would go home sit back relax and computer program.

Screw leaving it off, it's a HUGE accomplishment.

Now me and my sprint won't get a mention on a resume, but if I ever complete an Ironman you can get your butt it would be there somewhere.

Not that I'm passing out resumes all the time, though. Hell, I've been with the same company for 19 years (I think my resume when I was hired didn't even have a cell phone number on it!).
