all DUs start are 8:45

i think the sprints start at 8:50 with waves going every 2 min, 3 waves for each of the 3 distances.

OK.  That's probably about when I'll be there.  I'm planning to leave at 5 and I'm in Lancaster so that's probably about an hour drive.

Anyone have a check list they care to share?  I'm worried to death I'm going to forget something.  I just realized I don't have a race belt so I made one.  Other than that I'm just thinking tri shorts/top, bike, helmet and shoes, running shoes and some sunglasses.  Water bottles for the bike and a towel for transition.  Is there something critical I'm missing?  First real event so I'm kind of scrambling.

this is how i run through.

This is the I NEED TO RACE list, think about it by sport:

Swim:

you have goggles, and something to wear.

Bike;

Helmet
bike
shoes

Run:

Shoes.

everything else you can find/survive without.
race belt, socks, sunglasses, etc are all good.
if doing a longer race make sure you have nutrition too.

Some dry/warm clothes for after.

You may not need a race belt with this race (i think HFP has no bibs anymore).

Again if you or anyone else needs a pair of goggles or gel race morning i'll have extra of both.

I like to plan to get to all tris 2 hours before first wave starts

allows for surprises
best bike spot available
no wait at the packet pick up/ marking/chip stations
no wait at the toilets and you have time to do your business < very important
park close

eat breakfast on the way
park
throw bike on rack
potty
then the rest

All the regular stuff and like newbz said only a few items are critical

my odd items not on everyone's lists-
I always bring my own TP:
they can be out
the woods might be your only option
it is more comfortable

baby powder, glide, sunscreen, pins, rubberbands, tape, scissors, kroger bags, xtra drinks/snacks, extra of anything you have extras of (gggles, helmets etc), camera

No bibs.
no race belts needed.
No race marking WTF?!?!

Be prepared for crap roads and windy conditions.  Pray for no whitecaps.

I always bring my own tp as well.

Be prepared for the brown water.

Good luck everyone!

Pretty good,

I was worried when I got there because I was cold but after starting the race I don't remember being cold at all.  18.5 on the bike and 8:40 on the run.  (Sprint distance).  The swim was like 1/3rd longer than Hueston woods.  I was around 21 minutes to the entrance of transition.  I was trying to find some peeps from BT but never saw anyone.  So let me ask since this is my second event.  Would that be considered medium or light wind on the bike?  I liked the event.  Since I am new I enjoyed the "finishers" medal at the end.

I sucked it up.  About what I expected with my lack of training of late and my first real event complete with OWS.  I was freezing my @ss off in the morning.  No wetsuit so that wasn't a pleasant walk down to the beach or back.  The water really wasn't bad once I was in and swimming.  No real issues with the swim other than finding open water.  I stayed to the inside and figured I'd take the fast track but I should have started at the front of the line for that strategy.  I had a couple of people in front of me that kept zip zagging back and forth and I was only able to pass when they finally veered off into a buoy.  Cold start to the bike and the wind on the back stretch ate me alive with no aero bars and a wide frame.  Run was about half jog half walk.  First event so I was happy with finishing.  Put the hrs. in over the winter to get my fitness a lot better and get a few additions from Santa and I'll be looking forward to spring.

And WTF is Heed?  Is that some kind of Gatorade substitute?  I was on the run and a guy at the aid station was handing out what I thought was water.  I gulped it down and nearly tossed it back.  That stuff was awful.

Sounds like you had a successful day. Congrats on your finish. And Heed is a $h!++y energy drink that ought to be banned from all events. Period. I can't stand the stuff.

The pics I took of this race are up in my albums. Take a swing by and feel free to comment so I know you took a look at them. They feature bananatoes (Tom), twinklebug (DJ), Kwatazek(Kate), and newbz(Dave).

I saw Kate's car, but no Kate.  I couldn't find anyone except Sandy, my spin instructor, who works for HFP.

You got that right.  The stuff was bad enough on it's own, but when you are expecting water and drink that down, I had to walk for a bit as I thought it was coming back up over the spill way.

Nice pics to.  Congrats to Newbz on the ridiculous half and to Kate for winning her division.

I got second in my division.  Although I should probably add there were only two of us.Tongue out

One other note.  I have no basis for comparison but this seemed like a really well organized/run event.  I was really impressed especially with the number of racers in the field.  Everything was well marked and it seemed there were a lot of people at the aid stations and Sheriffs at every intersection stopping traffic.  Is this typical of all HFP events?

Yes, but sometimes they are 30 mins late starting due to long lines at packet pick up.  When I do a non HFP race I sometimes think to myself "wow HFP races are just soooo better".

Thanks Alice!  I love your new profile pic!  WOW!

Much like you ClydeNewb my win was by default- I was the only Athena racing the OLY.  There were only 6 athenas total.  Only 5 in my AG that did the MINI.  I can't wait to see the AG times to see where I would of fit in.
